What a year 2020 was as we were forced to stay indoors and had very limited social options. Sure, some things helped such as video calling and online shopping, but a little taste of limited freedom was enough to drive some people actually ill. In the US alone, 4 in 10 adults reported feeling anxiety and increased depression as lockdown laws and pandemic restrictions were enforced.
2021 is set to be different enough so that we can all start to mingle once again. While no one is suggesting that you completely disregard Covid-19 advice, having people over again might mean that your home needs a little touch-up. Here are three room renovations that are essential for 2021.

The nature of hosting guests means that some of the areas of most concern might include:
- Kitchen
- Patio
- Bedrooms
Of course, the kitchen will be of great concern as you look to prepare delicious food for guests while the garden area and patio is the perfect hosting area while you still practice some safeguarding measures and bedrooms might need some sprucing up if guests are to stay over.
Heart of the Home
The kitchen is often thought of as the beating heart of your home as most modern kitchens are large enough to accommodate multiple people as a socialization hub while you prepare and cook the day’s meals. Because of this, kitchens have evolved from a purely cooking area into something more befitting a modern family.
Kitchen renovation trends include such things as open-plan counters and worktops, large integrated fridge freezers, islands with stools, and even lounge areas with sliding glass doors and a coffee bar. While no one is suggesting that you go all out and get a Hollywood kitchen, you could hop over to this site for some inspiration.
Relaxation Area
Since Covid-19 guidelines state that there is a greatly reduced chance of infection when socializing outside and also the fact that it is nearly summer, you might want to think about your garden and patio area for accommodating guests rather than inside your home. If you don't have a patio, you can have one placed down at a relatively low fee starting from below $100 depending on the size.
Many people like to adorn their patios with furniture and features and it isn't uncommon to find such things as outdoor furniture, patio heaters, tables with parasols, barbecue grills, and juice/lemonade bars. You may even splurge and succumb to the temptation of installing the notorious hot tub, which can be purchased relatively cheap these days at under $500 with a deal depending on the type and brand.
A Third of Your Life
Since it's where most of your quality sleep happens, the bedroom is one of the most important rooms of your home since it's where you are going to spend approximately 26 years of your life. It is absolutely essential that you decorate your bedroom well with cooling colors and furniture materials as well as quality linen, pillows, and mattresses, all of which affect how you sleep.
Of course, a guest bedroom doesn’t need to be as expensive since it might hardly be used but it might be used more this year than ever before as we all get back together with friends and family after so long apart. Maybe a touch-up will suffice; a lick of paint, a new bedspread, and a quality mattress topper should be all that is needed to make your guests happy with their sleep in your spare room.
