Confession time! I had NEVER heard of Amazon Prime Day before in my life and now I feel like a complete idiot because I am a huge Black Friday shopper. I just found out that last year, Amazon Prime Day was even bigger than Black Friday! Well, no wonder Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, is presently the richest man in the world! I don't want you to miss out on this, as I did last year, so here are all the details about this event.

Amazon Prime Day 2018: when is it?
Now that I am an affiliate for Amazon, they are sending me information on this amazing event, which is how I learned about it. I will update this post as I find out more information, so you may want to check back.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 will start at 12pm PT (or 3pm ET) on Monday July 16 and run all the way until 11.59pm PT (2:59am ET) on Tuesday July 17. It's a day and a half of their best deals and giveaways exclusively for Amazon Prime members.
It looks like this could be the biggest ever Prime Day event, with an Amazon statement claiming:
“Prime Day 2018 will feature 50 percent more Spotlight Deals and more than one million deals globally. Prime members will enjoy the biggest deals yet on Alexa-enabled products, including Echo, Fire TV, and Fire tablets this Prime Day — and starting today, members can save $100 on the Echo Show.
Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer added:
“Prime members will enjoy a day (and a half) of our best deals, with 36 hours to shop more than one million deals worldwide. New this year, members can shop exclusive Prime Day Launches from hundreds of brands worldwide, enjoy exclusive savings at Whole Foods Market and experience surprise entertainment events unboxed from giant Smile boxes in major cities. More than 100 million paid Prime members around the world will find our best Prime Day celebration yet.”

Do I have to be a Prime Member?
Yes, you need to be a Prime member to take advantage of these deals, but you can sign up right before purchase on Prime Day, so it's okay to wait until the last minute. I signed up yesterday, July 5th, 2018 and they are offering me a free $10 reward!
I live in the US and I had just signed up the day before this message came to me and I had not yet made a purchase. So I cannot promise this will happen for you too, but it could!
It did not cost me anything to sign up. I did have to give my account details of how I will pay, but they offer a 30 day free trial, so I won't get charged until 30 days from now and the cost will be less than $13 per month for me here in Wisconsin, USA and I get all these benefits:
Prime Video – similar to Netflix, it's streaming of television shows and movies, with some that are exclusive to Prime. When you download selected titles to your iPhone, iPad, Fire Tablet or compatible Android device, you can also watch offline on the Prime Video app. You can use X-Ray to identify actors and songs while viewing a program, discover their biographies or backstories, and more. We noticed great titles like The Lion King and Star Wars: The Force Awakens are on there, for example.
Prime Delivery – free 2 day shipping!
Prime Shopping – early access to Lightning Fast deals.
Prime Reading – each month, you can download one of six editors' picks for free—before the official publication date. Then, the downloaded titles are yours to keep. As a Prime member, you can now read as much as you like from over a thousand top Kindle books, magazines, short works, books with Audible narration, comics, children's books and more—all at no additional cost. Plus read from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
Prime Music – Two million songs are included with Amazon Prime subscription. You get Ad-free music with unlimited skips. Prime members can play Prime Music on compatible devices that support Amazon Music. On phones and tablets with the Amazon Music app installed, Prime members can also download Prime Music for offline playback. Downloaded Prime Music can only be accessed within the Amazon Music app and cannot be exported. The selection of songs and albums available with Prime Music is always changing–new titles are added to the Prime Music catalog, and occasionally titles are removed.
Prime At Whole Foods Market – grocery discounts, from what I understand, this is very new.
Prime Rewards – Eligible Prime members can earn 5% back at Amazon.com using the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card or the Amazon Prime Store card. All Prime members earn 2% rewards with Amazon Prime Reload.
Prime Photos – You can back up and share your photos. Add your photos to the free app to see them on all your devices. You get free unlimited photo storage and 5 GB of free storage for non-photo content.
Prime Twitch or Twitch Prime – I have seen it written both ways. Prime members get exclusive benefits on Twitch, the world’s leading social video service and community for gamers, video game culture and the creative arts. There is a free daily video game from now until prime day.
Prime Deals on Prime Day – Yes, that's why I signed up! I love deals! I think it should be called Prime Day and a Half though or Prime 36 hour Sale or something, but whatever!
I also learned that anyone with a valid .edu email address can sign up for a 6 month free trial for Amazon Prime Student HERE. I have to admit that I feel this is unfair because I am a homeschool teacher and I feel I deserve 6 months free, but I will take the 30 days and my free $10 and be content.
If you are like me and don't have a .edu email address, you need to sign up HERE instead, like I did.
