Damage can happen to your home at any time, but there’s one thing that every home has in common; with time comes wear and tear. It’s hard to predict when something is going to break or become unusable in your home, but there are plenty of telltale signs that could alert you to damage that could be coming in the near future. Like with car repairs, finding and fixing problems before they become an expensive problem can save you time, money and effort in the long run. Check for these home problems now to avoid expensive repairs a little ways down the road.

Asbestos

Not only is asbestos a nuisance, but it can be extremely dangerous to your health too. Asbestos is only dangerous when it breaks down and the small fiberglass particles are released into the air. When this is unknowingly breathed in by humans, it can cause a wide array of problems with breathing. If you discover asbestos in your home, it can be an expensive removal depending on the quantity you have in your home.. However, having asbestos removed could literally save your life, so it’s worth doing now rather than later.

Water heater

Your water heater is likely something you don’t think about all too often, but it’s a detrimental part to everyday life. Your water heater provides you with hot water for washing up, cleaning, and bathing. When something goes wrong, many aspects of your life can be thrown into the air. Do you know How long do water heaters last? Do you know the age of your water heater? Have you ever had it serviced? If the answer is no, it might be time to check your water heater. Because you’re working with gas, it’s always a good idea to hire a professional to come and service it for you.

Gutters

The rain guttering on your home might not seem that important, but it helps drain rainwater away off your roof and can help prevent water from coming into your home through your roof. Over time, debris such as leaves and twigs can become caught in the gutters of your home, meaning water can’t drain properly. This can become an expensive repair if water damages your home. Clear out your rain gutters regularly to avoid this. Once or twice a year should suffice.

Leaks

Leaks don’t just occur because of blocked up guttering. Sometimes, roof tiles can slip out of place due to bad weather or birds landing on your roof. When this happens, your home is exposed to rainfall, and a heavy bout of rain could seriously damage your loft and any room underneath the leak. Check the tiles on your roof for any cracked, slipped or missing tiles so that you can have them replaced before they do any major damage to your home. Leaking water, especially if it’s not detected for some time, can seep into drywall and floorboards, causing them to rot or produce mold. A drywall repair company can help you replace any damaged sections before they become a bigger issue.

Checking your home regularly for issues with these 4 areas could save you a costly repair, not to mention benefit your health greatly. Take the time to check your home today!
