What makes a home warm and inviting? It can be a tricky thing to place our finger on, yet when we’re in a home that is, we know that it is, right? It can be a concern if you want to create an open and welcoming space in your home, but when it comes down to it, is actually quite sterile and bland. So whether it means tweaking your dining room, outside space, or living area, you can design it as a great entertaining space quite easily. Here are some tips and tricks to help make your home a better place for entertaining.

Decide Your Needs

To know what kind of entertaining space you are looking for, you need to know what it needs to be for. If you have young children, is it more about having space for the children to play, and somewhere for the adults to sit? If your children are older, would it be more a case of having loungers and a home theater services company to come and install a large screen? Think about your situation and what your entertaining needs are. Not everyone will need a large dining area, if dinner parties are the last thing on their mind, for example.

Size Doesn’t Matter

If you have a smaller home, then it can be easy to think that you can’t entertain in your home. Where will everyone sit? But really, thinking about the scale rather than the size is the best way to go. Think about the cartoons that we see of two people eating at a large table at opposite ends; not exactly inviting or cozy, am I right? A small room that is designed well can feel much more inviting than a cold, tall, large room that isn’t designed well. So don’t worry that you have a home that is too small. There is no such thing!

Think About Flexibility

Flexibility with your home can be really key, if you entertain a lot and enjoy having people over. The reason being, one day it could be hosting a dinner party for eight people, the next a party of thirty children, and the next, just the three of you that live in the home. So have a look at your home and what could work best for you. Formal dining rooms are becoming less and less popular, so how about making it a dining room and playroom or movie theatre room, for instance? Then it offers you flexibility when it comes to entertaining.

Having the Right Equipment

If entertaining regularly will be something that you do, then it is a good idea to think about the things you will need in the house to help you to do so. Plenty of places to sit is a must, so if you do have people around a lot, some folding chairs that can be stored in the garage is a great idea. Make sure you have things like drinks dispensers, as well as extra cutlery and plates always in the house is a good idea too.
