Homeschool Room – Creating The Perfect Space For Homeschooling
The Right Size
First of all, you will need to ensure that you have somewhere in your home which is a large enough size to house all that you will need for the homeschooling days. This requires that you have a keen understanding of what you are actually going to need, so it is good idea to first make a list of all the equipment and so on that is likely to be vital here. As long as you have the knowledge, you can then look into finding somewhere in the home which is the right size – or creating such a space, which could mean converting a basement or attic, building an addition, or anything in between. The size is important to ensure that your child doesn’t feel claustrophobic too, so bear that in mind while you work as well.
A Little Professionalism
It really helps if you make small touches to make it feel a little more like school on the whole. You can do this in a number of ways, but in general it just means taking a look at a real classroom and seeing what you can do to make it more like one. Having a whiteboard is definitely an essential for this, as is taking the opportunity to create some beautiful and ornate wooden desks for your children to sit at. You might as well make them as nice as possible so that your child understand it is to be taken seriously, so really put some work into carving those desks perfectly. You will need to pick the right wood finishing oil and complete them as well as possible, as this will make all the difference to how the room actually feels when you and your children are in it.
Bright & Light
It’s a good idea to ensure that there is plenty of light in the room, including as much natural light as possible. If it is a basement, you will want to make sure that it doesn't’ feel like one. It should be an enjoyable and pleasant space to be in, otherwise your child is unlikely to really appreciate it at all. Put a lamp next to a loveseat or small couch (so reading is comfortable for mom and child) in your homeschool room to have the best lighting to read books by.
A Homeschool Room has many things to keep track of and you will want to be able to find them quickly when needed and keep them in order. Get a cupboard or pantry with handles you can tie shut (to keep the toddler from getting the scissors and choking hazards). Within that cupboard, have a box for each child with their books in it that they can pull out and take to the table or their desk. This way they can take out and put away their own books. As you may have toddlers playing in the homeschool room while you teach your older children, consider their needs and set up a little play corner for them. Your preschooler may enjoy playing here while waiting his turn with mom too.
Get this right and it will mean you have much more peace and happiness with your homeschooling efforts.
