Clean, clean, clean
Cleaning the home is more than just the interior, the exterior matters too. It’s good to wash down the floors, the sides, and everything in sight. Yet, don’t forget about the garden, gutters, and windows.
For the outside of the house, gutter cleaning and washing down walls, doors, windows, and the garden are effective and simple ways to make the exterior look fresh and clean. These simple tasks will bring a level of charm to your home’s exterior too, which will make you fall back in love with your home all year long.
Add flowers
There are many ways to freshen up your home for summer, with adding flowers being one of them. This is probably the easiest and most fun task as it involves treating yourself as well as the home. Brighten up your home and garden with Sunflowers, Hibiscus, and Marigolds. If you’re not particularly green-fingered you can choose from a wide selection of artificial plants and trees to add style to your space.
Freshen up the window area
You can have the cleanest and brightest windows in the world, but if your blinds or curtains are dark and dingy, it can really bring down the overall look of the room. To keep rooms fresh, stick to light or white colored curtains or use slanted blinds that let in daylight whilst maintaining the flexibility of sunshade during day and night. Whilst leaving curtains drawn during the day can leave rooms cooler, remember that temporary stick-up black-out blinds in darker colors can attract the heat so you may wish to take them down during the day.
More mirrors
To give the illusion of more space, mirrors are an effective feature. Mirrors are a fab way of creating the illusion of space, as well as reflecting light around the room – the perfect way of bringing the sunshine in. Don’t forget to dust the surfaces regularly or the dust will be reflected too.
Declutter
Along with cleaning, a declutter is in order for the lighter and warmer months. It is a good time to get out with the old and in with the new. It is the perfect way to give the illusion of more space, is to clear out some of the unnecessary ‘stuff’ that is hanging around. Now the girls are a little older we have a one-in-one-out policy, where they donate older toys to charity for every new toy that comes in (other than birthdays and Christmas). We also have lots of toy storage to ensure that where possible, the majority of toys are stashed away out of sight once the girls have gone to bed.
Accessorize
Accessorizing your home can be extremely flexible for many budgets, but it can easily change the look of your interior. You can swap out throw blankets, pillows, and rugs for things that are better suited for summer color palettes. Feel free to add some fresh flowers to your home, as well as some gorgeous greenery. If you’re looking to accessorize your home with a limited or $0 budget, you can simply reorganize! Swap your living room accessories with accessories that are in bedrooms, move some artwork around, and rearrange your furniture arrangement–you’ll be surprised by just how different your home can look.
Neutral paints
If you are fed up with the warm or dark colors that have been surrounding you, freshen them up with lighter and neutral colors. You cannot go wrong with lighter tones, as they add more light to space and match any interior design and taste. If you still want some warmth, you can use slightly darker neutral tones and then brighten up space with lighter accessories and accents.
Don’t let the fast incoming summer months panic you. It can be easy to revamp your home in time for summer. Simple tips include cleaning, decluttering, and swapping out the old for the new. In no time your home will be ready for sunnier and warmer days.
