Attracting local customers is something that many business owners want to do, regardless of whether their business has a brick-and-mortar location or not.

Even if you run your business online or from home, targeting local customers can be a good way to narrow down a niche or appeal to the right audience. But when you're promoting your business online, finding local customers isn't always easy. It can be challenging to get local people to pay attention to your business when there are so many options for them to find online. However, there are lots of things you can do if you want to get more local customers.

Use Local Keywords

Local SEO can involve a number of different techniques. One of the most important things to do is to ensure you're using local keywords on your website and in other places, such as online ads. Local keywords are words and phrases that contain references to your local area, making it easier for people to find goods and services near to them. Weaving these keywords into content in a natural way can sometimes be tricky, but it's possible if you know what you're doing. A good SEO writer can help you to get it right.

Seek Out Local Press

PR can be an important part of promoting your business, and it's a good way to get attention for a local business. When you want local customers, using the press can appeal to the right people. Try looking for local press, including online publications, which might be news websites, blogs, magazines, or even local newsletters.

You might send press releases about something new that's happening for your business, or you could arrange interviews where you can talk about your business or an important local issue. It's a good method of getting involved with the local community.

Hosting a community event like a picnic style fundraiser for a local food pantry at a park may be a great way to raise awareness of your business. When it comes to fundraisers, the local press is usually more than happy to announce the event for free.

Get Citations and Listings

Local citations and business listings are another effective technique for local SEO. By getting your business listed with business directories, comparison sites, review sites, and more, you can increase your exposure. Try to find appropriate listings that match your industry and target audience. Using a comparison site for community solar customer acquisition makes sense for solar energy projects and is likely to be more useful than a general business directory. You should be able to find options that are specific to your industry, as well as local business directories.

Partner with Other Local Businesses

Getting together with other local businesses is really effective if you want to attract more local customers. When you partner with complementary businesses, you can share each other's customers. These businesses might directly relate to what you do. Maybe you sell pet products, and you could partner with a pet grooming business. Or they could simply be other local businesses that you could partner with to show that you both care about the community. You can run special offers together or promote each other's brands.

Find more local customers for your business by branching out and connecting with the local community.
