How to Learn Something New Everyday

We all know that learning something new has benefits. It keeps our minds sharp, helps us grow as people, and can even make us more successful in our careers. But sometimes it's tough to find the time or motivation to commit to learning something new daily. If you're looking for some tips on how to make learning a part of your daily routine, read on!

1. Set a goal.

One of the best ways to ensure that you stick with something is to set a goal for yourself. This doesn't mean that you need to plan to spend hours in the library every day – even simple things like reading a chapter of a book or watching a TED talk can count. Whether reading a new article or completing a lesson in a language-learning app, selecting a specific goal will help you stay on track.

The important thing is not how much time you spend but to keep in mind your primary goal of challenging yourself and expanding your horizons. Not only will this make you more well-rounded, but it can also help to improve your memory and mental flexibility. So why not try and set a goal to learn something new for 5 minutes today? You might be surprised at how much you can learn bit by bit.

2. Find a time that works for you.

Depending on your schedule, you might have a few spare minutes on the bus or some downtime after work. Choose a time when you know you'll be able to focus and devote some attention to learning.

If you're a morning person, set aside some time each morning to read about a new topic or try a new activity. If you prefer to wind down at night, use that time to explore something you're interested in. No matter when you choose to learn, the important thing is to make it part of your daily routine. By scheduling in and taking the time to understand something new every day, you'll keep your mind sharp and be one step ahead of the game.

3. Utilize technology.

Getting stuck in a rut is easy, especially when learning new things. However, thanks to technology, there are now more opportunities to learn something new daily. For example, dozens of online courses are available on various topics, ranging from history to science to cooking. You can even get an online Ph.D. in Information Technology without having to leave your home.

In addition, many websites and apps offer bite-sized lessons on everything from vocabulary to personal finance. Download a podcast or audiobook on a topic you're interested in, sign up for a MOOC, or download an app like Duolingo to help you learn a new language. And if you prefer a more cooperative learning environment, plenty of online communities are dedicated to sharing knowledge and expertise. Whether you're looking to learn something new for work or pleasure, there's no excuse not to take advantage of the wealth of online resources.

4. Take advantage of opportunities as they arise.

Whenever you're going about your day, take the chance to learn something new. Who knows, you might even find that it begins to help you deal with everyday conflicts or challenges better. Have a conversation with someone who speaks another language if the opportunity presents itself, or ask a friend or family member to teach you how to cook their favorite dish.

These organic learning experiences can be some of the most enjoyable and memorable! In the end, no matter what you do or learn, committing to learning something new whenever the opportunity arises is worth the effort and will help you grow as both a person and a professional.

5. Get a friend to join you.

One way to make learning something new every day achievable is to have a friend join you. This way, you will be more likely to start and to keep going because you have someone else counting on you to be there. You may be surprised to learn that your friend is also wanting to start this new class and just needed the extra push or motivation to get going. This is also beneficial if you are in a location where you would be coming out of a building at night. It is best to not be alone for safety concerns. You could either park next to your friend or ride together.

Now you and your friend will be able to have new conversations about the topic and can tell each other what you each got out of today's lesson. This can also help with the learning process in case your friend understood it in a different way than you did. This whole experience may even help you bond better as friends.

If you want to learn more every day, it doesn't have to be tedious-it can be fun! By utilizing technology, taking advantage of opportunities that arise, setting yourself some achievable goals, and trying mindfulness, you can easily make learning part of your daily routine in no time. Give it a try and see how quickly you begin reaping the benefits!
