It’s A Whitewash: What To Do When Your Decoration Efforts Don’t Look The Way You Had Hoped

When we finally get around to giving our homes a long-awaited makeover, it’s easy to assume that we’ll be able to leave all our interior issues behind us. Unfortunately, in some cases, decoration doesn’t transform a space in the way that we might like, meaning that you’ll go to all the hard work of covering those walls only to find that something still feels flat.

It’s a frustrating reality, and it happens way more often than most of us realize. Luckily, even in this instance, there are steps you can take to ensure the transformation that you’re after regardless. All you need to do is consider the following essentials to understand why your decoration efforts aren’t already having the transformative impact you were hoping for, and how you can change that moving forward.

You’ve gone for entirely the wrong style

Sometimes, we get an idea for a funky new style and roll with it. In many ways, this is where the best high-impact decor ideas come from, but there’s also a downside to going wild with your interiors, especially if you don’t consider overall style. After all, even if it looks amazing in theory, something like an industrial decor style in one room isn’t going to work in a home that’s otherwise all cottage chic. In this sense, it’s worth not only looking at other people’s decor inspiration but also thinking realistically about how that will work in your unique space, especially remembering that one out-there room can throw off an entire household, and leave your decor efforts lacking as a result.

The room needs more than a lick of paint

Sometimes, decor setbacks also stem from the fact that a room needs more than a lick of paint. After all, outdated carpet or rotting windows can keep even the nicest newly painted room in disrepair. In this sense, it’s essential not only to tackle decor itself but to also look at the bigger picture, always pairing new paint jobs with new carpets or the best home replacement windows you can find. This way, you cure the problem rather than simply covering it, and make it far more likely that your complete decor overhaul will work as one cohesive, and hopefully glorious, whole.

You haven’t integrated accessories

Paint can provide a blank canvas for any room, but accessories are really what transform a space. As such, even if you’re going for a minimal style, you’ll need to integrate a few key pieces before you can truly enjoy a room’s full potential. Everything from well-placed ornaments to art prints and house plants can certainly provide an all-important finish which, when overlooked, can stop even the best paint job from achieving the impact that you intended.

If you aren’t happy with decoration efforts that you’ve gone to a lot of trouble for, then the important thing is not to panic. Instead, take a step back, ask yourself what’s gone wrong, and keep a level head as you consider how you can overcome those setbacks for a room that you love at long last.
