Do you have a motivational word of the year? Something that moves you and gets you going even when you feel like you are comfortable or would rather let others take care of the situation? Or keeps you “in the race” when you feel like giving up? I encourage you to let that word be “try”.

Try Jesus
If you don't already know Him, I encourage you to know Jesus this year. You can read a Bible, attend church, speak with a spiritual leader or mentor or message me to learn how to have a relationship with Jesus.
Try to excel in your spiritual gift
This year, if you don't already know it, try to figure out what your spiritual gift is. There are books or maybe even a class or a meeting with someone in your church that can help you figure this out. I took a class at our church with a book as a guide and learned I may have two: faith and encouragement.
Once you know, think of how you can use it. Then try and try again. The more you try, the better you will get at succeeding, and someday, you will excel.
“So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.” 1 Corinthians 14:12
Try to be a better __________ (fill in the blank)
Try to be a better follower of Jesus, yes you will mess up, just apologize and try again.
Try to be a better spouse, even if you feel he/she doesn't deserve it.
Try to be a better parent, even if your child says you are a terrible parent or if your methods don't seem to be working. Don't give up, keep trying, until your dying breath, try.
Try to be a better worker, relative, friend, housekeeper, homeschool teacher, blogger, product reviewer, boss, example to others, etc.
“Try Everything” theme song
This word comes with a theme song! If you watched the movie, Zootopia, you know that the rabbit, Judy Hopps, had a theme song, called “Try Everything”.
The words from this song by Shakira on Zootopia are…
I lost another fight
I still mess up but I'll just start again
I keep falling down
I keep on hitting the ground
I always get up now to see what's next
Birds don't just fly
They fall down and get up
Till I reach the end
And then I'll start again
Though I'm on the lead
I wanna try everything
I wanna try even though I could fail
I won't give up, no I won't give in
Till I reach the end
And then I'll start again
No I won't leave
I wanna try everything
I wanna try even though I could fail
You filled your heart with love
Baby you've done enough that cut your breath
Don't beat yourself up
Don't need to run so fast
Sometimes we come last but we did our best
Till I reach the end
And then I'll start again
Though I'm on the lead
I wanna try everything
I wanna try even though I could fail
I won't give up, no I won't give in
Till I reach the end
And then I'll start again
No I won't leave
I wanna try everything
I wanna try even though I could fail
I'll keep on making them every day
Those new mistakes
Try to win the race or prize
There may be a prize in what you are trying for, such as the blue ribbon I won for my cartoon pencil drawing of Judy Hopps in Zootopia at my local county fair above. (I also made the mixed media “Try” sign above too). Or, there may not be an actual prize on earth that you can see. But imagine there is! And run this race like you are trying to win the prize! Try, my friend, try!
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1

Try is an awesome word for the year. We don’t have to be perfect or make huge progress we just have to “try” each day to be a little better. My word for the year is Joy. I’m looking forward to seeing the joy in the everyday details.

What a FANTASTIC word for the year! I love this. I think no matter what are circumstances, we can always try, and if not today, then we can try tomorrow. Your suggestions are great, too. Having a “try” perspective would be such a great way to approach a year. Pinning! 🙂 #wanderingwednesday
