It is recommended that you change your mattress every 7 years or so, but you might need to change it earlier than expected. You can increase the life of your mattress by turning it over regularly so that specific springs aren't having too much pressure on them all the time, but things like that only go so far.

Here are some signs that you need a new mattress:
There are loose springs
If you notice a spring sticking out of your mattress, then this should be a clear sign that you need a new one. Sticking out springs can be pushed back in, but they are sharp and could pop again at any moment. The last thing you want is to cut yourself on one getting into or out of bed. The springs in the mattress will start popping out if it is at the end of its life cycle and if your mattress has any, then it is a clear sign that you need a new one.
It is noisy when you move on it
If your mattress is creaking and making an incredible noise whenever you get on it, then it could mean that you need a new one. It likely didn’t make any of these noises when you first bought it, so the noise could be a sign that the springs are getting old and that you need a new mattress. If the springs are getting old, then they won’t be able to cushion you in bed as easily, and you might find it harder to sleep. Additionally, the noise from the loud mattress might wake you up each night, and for the sake of your sleep, you could get a new mattress.
It is uncomfortable
This one is easy. If your mattress is uncomfortable, then you should get a new one. It is as simple as that. Different people prefer different types of mattress, and as you can see on ChooseMattress, there is a lot of choices these days. It doesn’t matter if you have had your mattress for 5 years, 5 months or even 5 days, if you do not find it comfortable to sleep on, then you need to replace it. Fortunately, if it is a new mattress, then it might be covered by your money back guarantee so you can replace it with one more to your liking. You spend a lot of your life laying on your mattress, and you shouldn’t have to spend that time on something that you don’t find comfortable.
It is stained
This one might be more aesthetic than anything else, but if your mattress is stained, then you might want to consider replacing it. You can use all kinds of cleaning products to try and remove the stain, but sometimes there is nothing that you can do. The stain might be from you sleeping on it and have gone through your bed sheets, or it might be something else (we aren’t here to judge). Either way, few stains are odorless, and this might mean you want to change the mattress to get rid of this, too.
