If you’ve been in your home for a while now, you have probably come to feel comfortable in everything. You know the tricks to getting the boiler back and working, you know which creaky step to skip so you don’t wake the whole street, and your sofa has that comforting little dip in it that will only suit you.

But homes don’t last forever, and the utilities within your home are no different. Even if you have just moved in, you still need to take a close look – something you should have done before moving in, anyway – and see what could do with an upgrade.
THE LITTLE FIXES
Homes suffer from wear and tear like any other product you buy. If, when looking towards making improvements, substantial changes seem too much right now, then looking at the smaller issues around the house is an excellent place to start.
Little fixes can mean anything that won’t take more than a day or two to complete, and won’t cost a lot of money to rectify along the way. This could be as small as a splash of paint along door frames, to changing the light switches to something more energy efficient, such as dimmer lights as opposed to switches, which can save you money on energy bills and other charges.
THE BIG FIXES
These more substantial fixes are the things that keep your house going. In fact, a lot of the time they work so well that it is only once they start to malfunction that you realise how much you rely on them.
Getting these more substantial issues out of the way is a great way to get your home back up to speed and can include everything from filling in gaps in the roof, refurbishing the carpets or hardwood floors, or even HVAC Zone Control. All of these examples will go a long way towards providing better comfort within the home and let you relax with tranquillity without worrying about what will go wrong next.
AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
And then, there is everything else. There’s no real guideline on what precisely the ‘everything in between' is in your home as you will no doubt have a unique idea of what might need fixing. Some people choose to splash out and treat themselves to a new oven, fridge, or freezer. Others decide that the spare room would be much better use as a reading room, yoga studio or home gym.
Whatever you choose, the in-between when looking to top up areas in and around the house is entirely up to you and allows you to add a splash of personality to your home. Knowing what you want, (or what your partner wants) and making that a reality will feel like a satisfying little treat in of itself, and let you start planning the next change you want to make.
You want your home to be as efficient and welcoming as it possibly can be, and there is no need to undertake enormous changes throughout to make that happen. Even if other people don’t realise it, the little touch-ups can make you feel like living in an entirely rejuvenated and refreshed house, and there’s not much better domestic bliss than that.
