Tips For Making Your Business Feel More Like Home

Please Share:

Many business owners like their commercial buildings to be somewhat nondescript, believing that it creates a more focused work environment. However, with the recent upticks in people homeworking, people have had to work from the places where they rest and have fun. This has proven productive and you can make your business feel more like home.

Past homeworking studies have shown that productivity can surge upwards of up to 13%, which disproves the notion of bland environments causing strong results. Therefore, it’s worth considering if the work environment could be better served by some homelier elements being incorporated into it.

Incorporate a Lavish Decking Area

Many people install decking areas into their garden, giving them a place to schmooze and socialize without the worry of getting dirty or bothered by insects. It also provides a few new decorative options too.

For a charming outdoor social hub near your commercial building, take some inspiration from the final look of finished WPC decking from UK Ecoscape, a forma flint decking project for flexible offices at Devonshire Square. They can deliver a similar installation right to your commercial building, with all your necessary size specifications in mind. You’ll also enjoy the benefits of a 25-year warrantee, and low maintenance requirements, with no painting, staining, or sealing needed – only a simple clean!

Creating sweet and charming areas on the premises might mean workers can better maintain their mental and emotional wellbeing while on the job, protecting their best interests and helping them perform their best. Place some comfortable benches within the area, or even a couple of board games, and help workers to unwind during their breaks.

Introduce Further Natural Elements

Of course, when it comes to home spaces, people like to bring elements of the outdoors inside too.

Place some greenery around the work environment, and you’ll give your commercial building some color and character. Plants may also help to oxygenate the rooms they feature in too, so they have perks beyond the visual.

Additionally, you could increase the flow of natural light into the room. Throwback the curtains and maybe even open the windows too, and that way, the workplace will just feel airier and lighter, rather than a dark and dour place.

Of course, there’s the argument that these options have more in common with a natural woodland than any well-built home. However, in 2019 indoor plant sales boomed, and people are wanting to become progressively more connected to the natural world within the confines of their homes. Why not incorporate that notion into your workspace?

Encourage Bringing Things In

Many workers enjoy bringing pieces of their personal lives into the workspace.

For example, they may place pictures of their children on their desk. It could be that they’ll also have a collation of books adorning their shelves, occasionally perused on a lunch break. Personal items may even be for practical use, such as phone charges and makeup kits, helping them stay connected to loved ones or look their best.

The more people can bring in parts of their true selves to work, the better. It just helps them to feel ‘at home’ at work, or even remind them why they’re there for some extra motivation. In the end, a few home comforts can change everything, and all you must do is permit their presence.
