Join a community scheme

Joining in on schemes are the best ways to save money and share costs. For instance, there are community solar schemes such as www.choosesolar.com that allow communities to share electricity with those in your area. This scheme in particular allows you to live more sustainably and save on energy bills.

Furthermore, having solar panels often allows you credits and tax benefits, which will save you even more money.

Seal air leaks

You can request an energy audit for your home, which involves a representative coming to your house to review any ways in which you can save on energy bills.

Many homes suffer from air leaks due to gaps or damages to the windows or door seals. If so, you could be paying more for your energy to heat/cool your home than you need to. Getting these leaks sealed and resolved will allow you to use less energy to power and regulate heat in your home.

Check appliances for water drips

Many appliances in the home may be leaking water without you noticing. For instance, your toilets or sinks may be dripping water every few minutes. These drips will add up and in time, cause your water bills to skyrocket.

Check every water appliance in the house to ensure they are not leaking or dripping. If so, repair them or ensure to turn them off completely after every use to save on household bills.

Lock away your credit cards

Many people rely on credit cards to pay bills or extra miscellaneous household items. Instead of relying on them or using them for extra spending, ensure to keep your bills and fees to what you can afford.

Locking away your credit cards will likely help you curb your bad spending habits. Plus, you will ensure not to rack up extra fees if you delay payments.

Meal plan

Food bills can be some of the most expensive, especially if you waste food.

Meal prepping can dramatically cut costs of household bills. Ensuring that you get enough food to last and ensuring that you will eat it all will not only save money, but also cut food waste. You can get enough to feed the house. Meal prepping will also save you a lot of time too, which can be spent educating yourself on cutting poor finance habits or checking your leaky toilets.

Remember to unplug and switch off

When the night draws in and the house starts glowing with standby signs on your tv, microwave, and laptop charger, these are all signs that electricity is being used unnecessarily. Even though you might not be using them, they are still using up electricity.

Switching off unused electricals will reduce the costs of your energy bills.

Install fans

Whether or not you live in a hot country, you may experience days where you need cooling down. Although air conditioning is great, it can cost a lot of money. Installing ceiling fans is a more cost-effective way of cooling you, and the house, down.

Change your lightbulbs

Old lightbulbs could be using up a lot of unnecessary electricity. Swapping them for modern LED bulbs can save you a lot of money each year.

Using energy-saving lights really does make a difference. Changing them regularly will ensure to keep costs to a minimum.

Use direct debits

Instead of managing your bills each month and paying them online, you can set up direct debits. Not only will this save you time it can save you money.

Many household bill companies that accept direct debit payments will offer discounts for using that service. Or, you can pay annually through a direct debit, which may result in an even bigger discount.

Use insulation

During the colder months, good insulation is key for regulating the heat and keeping the home warm. Without insulation, you may find your heating bills are sky high.

Adding insulation can be affordable and result in a huge saving on your next energy bill.

Lower the temperature of your washing

Washing clothes can be very expensive for your household bills. Although it is necessary, it is not essential to wash at 40 degrees. Simply lowering the washing temperature to 30 can reduce the cost of the energy bill, and sometimes be better for your clothes.
