You might be in the process of moving house, or at the very least considering it. There are many reasons as to why you want to move house. It could be that you are downsizing or upsizing, or moving into a new area for work.

Moving house may never be plain sailing, there are lots of things to think about. This handy guide should make it easy for you and may even provide you with ideas you hadn’t previously thought about. You might love the idea of building your own home, this is a possibility. Why build a home when there are many already around to purchase. Building a home gives a true sense of ownership as you have designed it and everything is just right.

Area

When you are moving you need to think about the area you are moving into. You might currently live in a really lovely affluent neighborhood so you want to keep it that way. The first step should be to check out the area online, make sure the crime rates are low and there are no problems with anti-social behavior.

While checking out the area it is also useful to know if you have good schools nearby, if you have children or are wanting them in the future. Also, find out if there are any children’s activity clubs or mother and baby groups in the local area. If you do have children it would be nice to make some other mommy friends.

You should also make sure there are supermarkets locally, you don’t want to be traveling miles just for your weekly food shop. Along with supermarkets, other localities to find are a doctor's surgery and a dentist.

Budget

Once you have found the area you want to move to it is a good idea to discuss your budget. This could be with a partner, or professional if you are going it alone. You need to make sure all your incomings and outgoings are correct before you can apply for a mortgage. Remember, mortgage companies will go through everything to make sure you can afford the repayments on your home. Speaking to a mortgage advisor will be helpful in making sure you get the best deal possible for your needs.

Rooms

So you have decided on the area you want to move to and how much you have to spend on a house. Now you need to think about how many rooms you need in your new home. You might want a bedroom for each of your children or an extra reception room for entertaining your guests. You also need to decide if the amount of rooms you need fits into your budget. You can always double up rooms if there aren’t enough. You could also get a smaller house and add a loft conversion or extension. Loft conversions are great as you get extra space and you also add extra value to the sale price of your home. Great if you want to sell it in the future.

We hope you found this article helpful and have a greater understanding of what to consider when moving house.
