Renovating and redecorating to improve your home is rarely a one time thing. For as long as you live there, you’re going to be changing things around, painting the walls over and over, knocking things down, converting rooms for use, and ultimately keeping your home looking and feeling fresh.

And yet, a lot of homeowners don’t want to put all this work in year after year. It gets time consuming, it can be expensive, and honestly? It’s often quite boring as well! That’s why it’s a good idea to look into decor projects that’ll last a long time, as well as retain the majority of their freshness and durability as time goes on.

The good news right now? We’ve got five such projects below for you to get on with! If you’ve got some time and some savings doing nothing right now, you can invest in these ideas and use them to turn your home into an ever-fresh space.

Expose Brick for a Feature Wall

Peeling back layers of wallpaper, paint, and plaster to expose the brick underneath sounds like a waste of time. All of the coats on top are there to keep your home looking well finished!

However, exposed brick is all the rage in the decor world, and it’s not just a passing trend either. Exposed brick has been a popular style for at least a century already and it shows no sign of slowing down!

So, why not pop a brick feature wall into your kitchen, living room, or bedroom?

Lay Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl is a pretty easy material to work with. Even luxury vinyl that’s made of the highest quality material doesn’t necessarily require specialist installation – most homeowners can get the job done themselves.

Vinyl is easy to cut, lay, and smooth out, even in awkward corners like doorway edges. All you need to do is take measurements, make sure you have a sharp knife, and follow a straight line.

And this may surprise you, but vinyl lasts a long time too. Expect to get over 20 years of use out of your new flooring!

Change Kitchen Countertops

Did you know you can pull off your old kitchen countertops and get new ones installed whenever you want?

Countertops are usually separate to the cabinets below them, so unfixing them tends to be a matter of just getting a screwdriver out.

Once you’ve done this, you can lay any new countertop that you like, in any material. Aim for a hardy material here, that’s resistant to burns and utensil scratches, such as quartz or granite.

These materials tend to be waterproof as well, so you won’t have to worry about cleaning up grease splatters immediately.

Create a Storage Center

Have you got an attic or a garage that’s not doing anything? If you don’t have any plans to convert or use them for another purpose in future, take charge right now and turn them into a storage center.

If you’ve got one room in your house that’s dedicated to keeping things in neat, tidy boxes that are easy to sort through, you’ll never have to spend hours hunting for things you chucked in a drawer and now can’t remember which one.

Storage features and containers can also be built creatively. As such, the room can end up serving multiple purposes!

Wash Down the Exterior

A clean exterior always looks good! If it’s been a while since you gave your home’s curb appeal some TLC, make sure this project makes it onto your home improvement list.

You can use a power washer for this, if you’ve got some heavy dirt to get rid of, but you can also get a telescopic mop and fill a bucket with soapy water. No need to get up a ladder when you’ve got a cleaning arm you can extend.

And make sure you give the windows a once over while you’re here. Windows are always dirtier than they look!

Let’s Improve Your Home for the Future!

If you want to improve your home and reap the rewards of your work for at least the next five years, these are the projects for you!

From repainting to laying new flooring and making sure your home looks neat without much effort, there’s a lot you can do to save yourself some effort.

And remember, you can always call out someone to do the hard work for you if you don’t have the time or energy to get something done!
