Keeping your home safe isn’t easy and this is especially the case when you are going away on holiday or even when the festive period comes along. If you want to start doing everything you can to keep your home safe then there are a couple of things that you can do to try and make sure that this happens.

Note: Some links in this post are affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you make a purchase. Affiliate relationships include, but are not limited to Amazon Associates, Walmart.com, and Etsy.

Flyers and Leaflets

The first thing that you need to do is remove any flyers and leaflets from your doorstep. If you don’t: because you can’t be bothered, or because you just don’t know where to put them, then this can make it look as though you are on vacation. Burglars will target your home if they believe that you are not in. Some burglars even check to see if someone is home by planting a flyer and waiting to see if it is picked up. If you are going away, then try and get a neighbor to pick up the flyers for you.

Landscaping

If you have a really overgrown garden then this can serve as a hiding place for criminals. Try and keep your garden as clean and as maintained as possible. You need to try and make it as hard as possible for them to hide or spy on your home, so move any shrubs away from the windows and always trim back your trees.

Light Timers

Light timers are brilliant if you want to deter intruders from your home. It can make it look as though you are in, even when you’re not and you can even buy fluorescent bulbs as well if you want to try and keep the cost down.

Packaging

When you buy an expensive gift, you may be tempted to put the box outside with the rest of your rubbish. You should avoid doing this because it can make your home look more attractive to burglars. When disposing of your gifts, you need to make sure that you put any boxes that you have inside other boxes, or even try and take them to the local recycling service.

Security Cameras

Companies like homesecuritysystem.co can provide you with all of the security support you need and this includes cameras. When you have security cameras set up outside your home, you have protection in place if you are ever broken into and you’ll also find that it is a great way for you to collect evidence of the offence as well.

Ladders

A lot of people have ladders in their yard for when they need to clean the gutters. The problem with this is that it can provide a criminal with an easy way to access your home. You need to make sure that you avoid this if possible by storing any ladders that you have in the shed or even in your home when they are not in use. If you have a trellis outside your home for your plants then this can also provide a criminal with a way into your higher windows. You’d be surprised at how helpful little things like this can be when it comes to break-ins!
