Is Your Vacuum Cleaner Beyond Saving?

Anything that makes cleaning a little easier on you is worth investing some time and energy into. This goes for the standard household appliances that we typically rely on, such as your vacuum cleaner. If you find that it isn’t operating as efficiently or as effectively as it used to, here are a few tips that could help you get it back to full health.

Mind your filters

Most vacuum cleaners have one or more filters designed to trap dust and allergens. These filters can become clogged over time, reducing the vacuum's suction power and efficiency. Depending on the type of filter, it may need to be rinsed with water and allowed to dry completely before reinserting it into the vacuum. Some filters, especially HEPA filters, need to be replaced periodically. Check your vacuum cleaner’s manual for the recommended replacement schedule, which is typically every 6 to 12 months. Your vacuum’s manual should contain instructions on the type of filters it uses, and you can find older appliance manuals online, too, with a little looking.

Don’t let dust settle in there

While your vacuum cleaner might be designed to take care of dust, that doesn’t mean it should sit in there indefinitely. Over time, dust and dirt can become sticky and cloying due to a natural build-up of moisture. If your vacuum cleaner has a bagless design, ensure that the dust bin is emptied regularly. Allowing the bin to become too full can hinder the vacuum's performance and increase wear on the motor. After emptying the bin, clean it with a damp cloth to remove any residual dust and debris.

Know when to get a professional involved

Of course, there are some issues that you might not be able to deal with yourself. Even if you’re able to make minor fixes with the brush roll and with the driving belt, if parts of the machine are going faulty or it, in general, isn’t working as well and you can’t see why, then it’s time to get in touch with teams like All Vacuum Repair. They can perform a more thorough inspection and repair any issues that are beyond routine maintenance.

Make your home easier to vacuum

It could be that your home isn’t as easy to vacuum because there have been some changes that have made it more difficult to clean. For one, if you’ve switched to a new carpet, then you have to make sure that your vacuum has the features to give it the deep suction necessary and wash it otherwise to prevent dirt from sticking to the fabric. If you’re not looking to take on extra cleaning tasks to keep your flooring clean, then you should look at easy-to-clean flooring types as shown at Flooring 101, which your vacuum can handle much better.

Make sure to invest in the proper care for your vacuum cleaner to get the best out of it. Store it in a cool, dry place and avoid wrapping the power cord tightly around it, as this can cause damage.
