If your home has a staircase, then it can feel like one of the blandest parts of your interior design. You could walk into dozens of homes and feel nothing from their staircases – they all look remarkably similar. There’s this big misunderstanding that you can’t do much with staircases, but that’s not true in the slightest. You can get creative in a multitude of ways to bring some true uniqueness to your home.

Looking to give your staircases a new lease of life? Check out the cool design ideas below:

Super Modern Glass Staircases

Start things off with an uber modern design that brings something genuinely interesting to your home. Rather than a traditional staircase with an old-school bannister, you could create one with glass balustrades for a refreshing look. The glass down the side of your staircase makes the entire room feel more open and bright, but it’s also something you don’t see in most homes. These staircases are associated with modern interior design projects and luxury properties, so they add a true touch of class to your interior.

Various Types Of Spiral Staircases

99% of staircases in homes fall into two categories:

  • There’s one line of stairs angled straight up to the floor above
  • You have an initial line of stairs, then another joins it at a right angle to take you to the floor above

Neither is particularly “unique” or visually striking, so why don’t you consider spiral staircases instead? This is a very creative idea for your next home renovation and lets you explore a wave of styles. You can go down the industrial look with a metal spiral staircase or use wooden steps at different angles to craft an almost helter-skelter spiral.

The beauty of this specific staircase idea is that spiral stairs can sometimes safe a lot of space while giving you cool design elements. If you want to open up a hallway while retaining practicality, this is a great way to do that.

Very Striking Floating Staircases

Next on the list is the idea of a floating staircase. While most staircases are built with steps and a closed-off portion beneath, this design idea looks like the steps themselves are floating in the air. You can be really creative with this and incorporate glass balustrades again, or you can add in metal handrails for support – whatever you think fits best.

It’s a very visually appealing staircase design option, though there’s one big mistake to avoid with floating staircases: don’t do it yourself. Ensure you get proper technicians to install every floating step so there’s the perfect weight balance. It’s absolutely not a DIY job, just from a safety standpoint.

Practical Storage Staircases

We’ll end with a quick nod to the practical storage staircase design idea. If you want to make use of the space under your stairs, then design a staircase with built-in storage solutions. A few of the steps could lift up to reveal storage beneath, or you could have an under-stair closet designed to store things in. It’s a practical way to jazz up traditional stairs.

Give your home a new lease of life by jazzing up your staircase. You’ve got a handful of ideas that will transform your interior and create a true talking point in your home.
