2026 is an exciting year to be a homeowner planning a kitchen remodel. We've seen so many new technologies come to market and smart integrations that there is an endless supply of interesting features to add.
But what are they? What's now possible with technological innovations?

Next generation cooking tools
For many homeowners, the most exciting development is in next-generation cooking tools. These are blending automation with digital convenience to make meal preparation much more straightforward, consistent, and reliable.
One of the best examples of this right now is Thermomix's TM7. This is essentially an all-in-one cooking solution that can do everything from boiling food to stirring it and preparing it in different sections. It has an integrated panel screen that accesses cloud services that automate meal planning and dish preparation. It minimizes the amount of work that users need to do while ensuring that results are consistent and cooked exactly according to a schedule.
There are also air fryers that have additional functionality. These can cook potato chips or prepare meat-based dishes, including stews, soups, and sauces.
Voice-activated hubs
Another exciting new feature in kitchens for 2026 is voice-activated hubs. These allow homeowners to control the environment in their kitchen using nothing other than their voice. These systems are more convenient than many people imagine. That's because they can be connected to ventilation, lighting, and oven pre-heating. They can also be used to control the microwave without having to physically walk over to it.
In busy kitchens, the ability to give the kitchen voice commands is useful. It means that chefs can spend more time concentrating on the food they're cooking and less time trying to manage different buttons and knobs and appliances around the room. If the microwave has been running too long, for example, there's no need to rush over and stop it manually. Instead, a voice instruction can be given via the voice-activated hub.

Invisible and seamless technology
Invisible and seamless technology isn't functional, but it is a nice addition to high-end kitchens. It means that homeowners can hide some of the uglier functional elements of their kitchens inside cabinets or worktops. For example, hidden induction cooktops are becoming more popular. These can literally be built into the marble or stone surfaces and finishes. Touchless designs are also on the rise. These don't require any physical knobs or buttons; instead, they have integrated buttons that are flush to the cooking surface or no buttons at all and rely exclusively on voice activation or apps.
Again, what's nice about many of these appliances is that they adapt in real time. For example, they can use sensors to detect when cooking is about to be finished, and they can adjust temperatures during cooking to ensure that food cooks optimally.
Precise pot fillers
Precise pot fillers are another innovation for 2026. The idea here is to dispense just enough water for the ingredients that you want to boil or cook. Pot fillers were originally for pasta chefs and cooks who didn't want to transport water from the kitchen sink. Instead, the pot filler sits right above the hobs, making it easier to top up.
Precise pot fillers bring this to the next level by integrating with recipes themselves. These know how much water to add to specific pots and pans in order to enable cooks to get the best results.
These days, pot fillers are fitted as standard by professionals. A kitchen remodeling contractor can set up these units just right for your cooking needs. You can ensure that the arm extends to the right position and that you're able to fill up pots on every hob from a single location.
Bigger footprints
Another interesting change for 2026 that doesn't relate to technology is the desire for larger footprints. Many property owners want their kitchens to offer them more space because of their role as a primary hub in the household. Many people gravitate to the kitchen because of its inherent attraction.
To achieve bigger footprints, a lot of homeowners are knocking through to neighboring dining rooms. Instead of having them as separate rooms, they are incorporating them into a single shared eating space. Bigger kitchens are also possible through extensions and side returns. These can often double the size of the usable area and can massively improve corridor-style kitchens, which are too small to be practical for anything other than cooking.

Integrated refrigeration
2026 is also seeing the expanding popularity of integrated refrigeration in the kitchen. More homeowners than ever want convenient refrigeration options, such as drawers that refrigerate fresh items, built into kitchen islands and cabinets. While standalone refrigerators aren't going to go out of fashion anytime soon, integrated options provide homeowners with more functionality.
For example, it's nice to have an integrated drawer refrigerator full of fresh herbs next to a chopping station. This reduces the need to constantly journey backwards and forwards to the main refrigerator.
Sustainable and textured materials
Another development for 2026 is the increasing availability of sustainable and textured materials. These have eco-friendly designs enabling homeowners to look after the environment even while renovating their properties. Tonal finishes are particularly popular for countertops and cabinets. Brands like Cosentino are improving their product lines to make them more attractive to customers. Many of these offer sustainable beauty that would be impossible without extensive research and development.
Artistic and patterned tiles for other surfaces like floors and back splashes are also making a comeback. Many property owners are avoiding minimalist designs and instead opting for detailed stone mosaics. There's also high demand for tumbled limestone because of its natural and elegant appearance. Homeowners want their properties to look more soulful.
Statement stainless steel appliances
Finally, a lot of property owners are opting for statement stainless steel appliances in their kitchens. The idea is to get options with integrated designs that fit alongside existing cabinetry. Many of these appliances are commercial quality, which means that not only are they more durable and have higher capacity but also have additional features that make them more practical in the home, like the ability to exhaust more fumes.
