Most people who know something about interior design have an understanding of the types of furniture that suit the living room, bedrooms, and even the bath. But what about if we came to decorate and furnish an orangerie? Which furniture styles are most appropriate for this room?
Ideally, you want furniture that is suitable for a light, open, and airy space. You also want something that's going to complement your orangery's architectural charm and beauty.

Wicker and rattan furniture
The most obvious choice is to go for wicker and rattan furniture. This is additional and safe and perfect for orange trees, no matter what type of relaxed garden room space you're trying to create.
These days, wicker and rattan home furniture is plush and well-designed. Most pieces look substantial and pair well with modernist coffee tables, ottomans, and cushions. What's nice about Wicca and Rattan is that it feels light and airy and resists age. It also goes well with other natural elements that might be in your orangery, including plants, stone features, and even fountains. You can make Rattan and Wicca cozier by adding cushions and throws. The material is plenty strong enough to support people if made in the right way, so don't be afraid to use it; it's just like you would use a conventional sofa or chair.
If you want to use it in a Victorian-inspired orangery, then do so. Bratton and wicker materials give the space a classic conservatory vibe.
Reclaimed wood furniture
Reclaimed wood furniture is another option. This material has a lot of character and is perfect for benches, wood tables, sideboards, arm chairs, and other pieces. It's also cheaper and more environmentally friendly depending on where you get it from. You have to be careful, though, where you deploy it. Generally, it works best in orangeries with textures like linen and jute combined with vintage accessories.
Reclaimed wood is obviously very rustic and so doesn't go as well in modernist designs unless it is the only element that is natural and serves as a focal point. You can also use reclaimed wood in bohemian orangeries, but you'll need to pair furniture with decorative cushions and plenty of potted plants around the edge of the room. This way you can add more personality to the space.
Minimalist and modernist furniture

You can, of course, experiment with minimalist and modernist furniture in the orangery if you want a clean and uncluttered look. However, you'll need to manage all of the straight lines and try to make the room appear more natural. For example, many people like to add glass top tables and monochromatic dining sets to their orangeries for dining with guests in an indoor-outdoor space.
If you decide to go ahead with this idea, you'll need to combine the aesthetic with chrome and brushed gold elements to create statement pieces. Make sure you keep your seating low profile and don't block any views of the garden. Also, if you're using modern materials, ensure that they are UV-resistant; otherwise, incoming light will fade them over time.
Shabby chic furniture
You could opt for shabby chic furniture as well. This looks both distressed and romantic at the same time, which is perfect for a slightly informal space like your orangery. Shabby chic sideboards and tables are a great option. These should be painted white, but have a distressed look like they've been well used. You could also opt for a low coffee table or even shabby chic shelving for a soft and feminine touch. If you go for a shabby chic appearance in your orangery, combine it with cushions, floral patterns, and soft furnishings. Don't add masculine elements, as these will not complement the furniture.
Also, think about the lighting in the orangery, especially at night. Adding fairy lights or string lights to the room can complement shabby chic furniture and really bring it into its own. You want the orangery to be as bright and open as possible to show off the grain of the wood and create a charming sense of soft and hard elements coming together.
French-style dining furniture
What about French-style dining furniture? In our view, this is another solid option for your orangery. These French-style chairs and tables made of oak have a graceful design that makes your dining feel more sophisticated, especially if you have guests over. Choose pieces that neatly tuck away in various parts of your orangery and provide comfortable seating for long meals overlooking your garden or outdoor space. Give guests the opportunity to admire your landscaping, raised beds, and water features from the pleasant environs of your orangery.
If you're going for French design and style, then it's sometimes a nice idea to add a chandelier or pendant lighting. This improves the ambiance even further, especially in the evenings. You get the balance and refinement of the room itself combined with low lighting levels that make everything feel more relaxing and special.
Tropical furniture
Tropical furniture is another option. These days, many companies now make furniture from woven materials or even bamboo. Not only durable and practical, for example, bamboo is affordable, and you're able to mix various patterns and textures together with existing accessories like woven baskets and hanging greenery.
Tropical furniture also allows you to add more colour to your orangery. If you don't want to go down a traditional aesthetic route, you are free to use it. This type of furniture enhances your orangery's connection to nature and makes it a more relaxed and vacation-like setting. It works well with plants, watering cans and other cosmetic items.
Contemporary luxe furniture

Finally, you could opt for contemporary luxe furniture for your orangery. This aesthetic relies heavily on materials like velvet and leather, combined with glass and metal statement pieces. You can find contemporary luxe furniture in the form of sofas, ottomans, coffee tables, and more. If you go for this style, make sure you combine the furniture with sumptuous fabrics and rugs. You want the entire space to feel like an indulgence or an Aladdin's cave. Don't be afraid to bring in artisanal elements or golden statues to make it feel even more upscale.
