Think about your business’s requirements

First of all, you need to give some serious consideration to what needs your business has. These will usually be easy to spot as they're the very things that have caused you to grow out of your home base, such as not having enough space, not having a location where customers can visit, or not being close enough to logistics routes to make your processes efficient.

Consider your budget

Next, when transitioning from a home-based business to your own business premises, you need to think carefully about the budget you have. The best way to do this is to consider the return on the investment that your own premises would provide. After all, any overhead costs, such as rent, will need to be deducted from your income before you can reach your profit, and this means the extra cost of a business location can have a significant impact on your bottom line.

Find the right location

Another important factor to consider when transitioning from a home-based business to your own premises is the location you choose. Some businesses need very specific locations to thrive, such as retail or hospitality businesses, which rely on customer footfall. However, other types of business, such as manufacturing, would need to make sure they are located in the right zone for this type of business to take place.

Check that the building is in good condition

It's also vitally important that you check the condition of any building you are considering for your business premises. It's less important that it's perfect, but more that the monthly rental price reflects the condition that the building is in. For example, a building needing commercial roof repair could still be a viable choice. Just as long as you ensure that the building owners find a reliable and expert commercial roofer to make repairs before you move in.

Consider the additional technology and equipment you will need

Nearly all types of businesses will require equipment and technology to operate in 2056. To that end, making sure that any building you choose has high-speed and reliable internet is always a good idea. Selecting a business that is already equipped with security solutions such as alarms and CCTV is smart too, as these can not only help protect your business belongings, but also help lower your insurance premiums as well.

Ensure the move goes smoothly

Last of all, when transitioning into a business premises from a home-based operation, you will want to do everything you can to ensure that moving day goes as smoothly as possible. It's a good idea to hire professional movers for this task, especially if you have a large amount of stock that you need to take from one site to another.  Choosing to move during a weekend or a holiday can also be helpful, as it means your business will not suffer due to downtime in the working week.
