Adopt the daily reset routine
A daily reset routine is always helpful in order to try and stay on top of any of the work that you do.
Setting a timer for fifteen minutes is a good start, especially when you want to focus on high-traffic areas like the kitchen or bathroom, for example. Once the timer goes off, stop what you’re doing to avoid burnout, but also to avoid getting bored with cleaning too.
If the task takes you less than 60 seconds, then do it immediately, rather than letting it accumulate in the hopes of doing it later. Later never really comes when it comes to tidying up.
Making your bed first thing in the morning is a good way to make your bedroom look 90% cleaner. At the end of the day, try to have a nightly kitchen shutdown where you wipe down surfaces, load the dishwasher, and put away any clean dishes before going to bed.
Time-saving cleaning techniques
There are some useful time-saving cleaning techniques worth doing to help you save on the time you are cleaning and to achieve a cleaner home as a result.
Firstly, clean top-to-bottom. When cleaning a room, start off high, dusting shelves and moving down to the floor. This will help to prevent dust from falling on already-cleaned surfaces.
Try to clean while you’re cooking. Use the time while waiting for water to boil or for the food to bake, to load the dishwasher and wipe down the countertops so they’re clean.
It’s beneficial to have a catch-all basket where you can place a basket in key rooms where stray items can be thrown away. Sort the basket out at the end of the week, rather than chasing the items around daily.
For dusty spots, dryer sheets are a great way of dusting difficult spots from baseboards to blinds. They help to repel dust from forming again.
Smart tools for faster cleaning
It’s useful to have some smart tools in place for faster cleaning to cut down the amount of time you spend on tidying around your home.
Multi-purpose cleaners are always great to help reduce the time spent switching between products. Microfibre cloths are great for trapping dust and grime more effectively than other materials like paper towels, for example. This also reduces the need for heavy scrubbing.
A cleaning caddy is helpful for your essential supplies and to avoid having to trek up and down the stairs to get products that you’ve forgotten about.
Having a lightweight, cordless vacuum can often make quick touch-ups on things like your rugs and hard floors a lot easier to manage.
Strategies for busy households
