white pillows and sheets on an untidy bed Household Items That Need Replacing Regularly neededinthehome.com

We can own an awful lot of things in our houses! Sometimes we can become a bit of a hoarder and never throw things away when we accumulate them, and sometimes we’re all too willing to replace even the slightest chipped plates. Either way, there’s a lot of rules of thumb when it comes to needing to buy new things for your house, and a lot of common household items have a bit of an expiry date to them.

This is a contributed post and contains affiliate links. My website is my job, and helps to support our family. If you decide to buy something you see mentioned here, I would be so thankful if you clicked through my links so I can receive a small commission at no cost to you. Thank you! Please read my full disclosure.

[ctt template=”4″ link=”Bj4DC” via=”yes” ]There are many household items that need replacing as many of them get overused or have a bit of an expiry date to them in a way. These are some to think about replacing. [/ctt]

In the Bathroom

When it comes to the bathroom, we’re all too keen to make sure most of what we use is only of the one time variety. And yet, there’s some items that need to be changed on a regular basis that just don’t get the chance to be.

Things such as your toothbrush, for example. They look after our teeth, gums, and tongues every day, and this can wear down the bristles and collect a lot of germs. Try to replace these every 6 months or so to make sure you’re not accidentally introducing a breeding ground of germs into your mouth, and to keep your teeth as clean as you can!

When it comes to towels, flannels and poufs, make sure these are replaced every month, as wear and tear can very quickly remove the cleaning ability of these, and let’s face it, you don’t want to constantly be using the same washcloth!

In the Kitchen

Just like the bathroom, we like to think this room is one of the cleanest places in our houses. However, there are some things that can go missed to the untrained eye, and can be a bit of an embarrassment when there are guests around.

Target the sink when you’re in the kitchen. For example, if you have a sponge to clean your dishes with, you’re going to need to break out a new one after you’ve used the previous one about three times. It might just be cheaper to change to microfiber cloths at the end of the day! When something that can genuinely disgusting needs changing so regularly, it just isn’t worth the time and money.

Also consider changing your cutting board if it has many nicks in it as it could be difficult to thoroughly clean those areas and could be a breeding ground for bacteria.

In the Bedroom

There’s a lot of things in the bedroom that can sit around for years to come, or until they break, but there’s some that will need replacing regularly.

Your mattress is something that can hold up a lot of wear and tear, but after the 8 year mark of use, you’re going to need a new one.  It also seems like a new pillow is always needed.  You’re also going to need to change your bedding every few months or so, even when you’re washing them regularly, they’re going to wear down and lose their usability. Try out something like split king sheets when this point rolls around again, as they can last longer and give you a better night’s sleep compared to your old items.

So if you’re looking to have a good clear out, see whether you fit any of the conditions listed above. Have fun with your house redec!
