Handy with a pen, or more likely, the keyboard? You can make more money with freelance writing in 2024 and beyond. People want original and creative ideas. Writing online has never been more sought after. From finding a writing specialty to showcasing your work, here are some ideas.

Consider How Much You Need

Some people write online full-time and earn good money doing it. However, most operate on a part-time basis and use writing skills to top up their income. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average American writer earns roughly $60,000 per year. This is a good income but not reachable for most online writers. Experts like Alex Kleyner recommend budgeting for better income. This will help you work out how much you need from your writing side hustle.

Choose a Specialty Field

What should you write about? The options are almost endless. Anything you can think about is the limit. This is known as niche writing, and bloggers use this to full effect. However, there are common writing fields that you may use when starting out. These include Business-to-Business (B2B) marketing, copywriting, and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) writing. Niche writing for blogs is more specific and includes things like hobbies and interests like travel, food, and health.

More Money with Freelance Writing Tools

You only need an internet connection, a laptop or PC, and a keyboard to begin as a home journalist. You can then write using free apps like Google Docs. However, you can make more money using various tools. For example, you will gain a better reputation with perfect grammar using Grammarly. There are also clients willing to pay more for creative articles. Articles can include edited images, infographics, and slideshows for which you can charge more.

Showcase Your Creativity

Writing is a creative art and a skill combined. Like most other people with a skill, you can help find more business by showcasing your talents. This might have been somewhat challenging a few years ago. But today, it is easier than ever to display writing skills. Boards like Upwork and Fiverr offer personal showcase areas. But all it really takes is a blog with examples and samples. Social media is also a great option. Be sure to display your best work prominently.

Use Available Agencies for Finding Work

Finding online work, in general, can be hard. It is even harder to make a break into specialist areas such as writing. Fortunately, there are some agencies that can find work for you. You may not make as much money as if you were truly freelance. However, there are agencies that provide you with steady work. With dedication, you can turn this into a full-time job that pays a good salary. You can also work part-time with these agencies and earn substantial extra money.

Summary

Working out how much money you need against the time you have available will help when making more money with freelance writing. Using extra apps such as Photoshop can help you create comprehensive articles for which you can charge more money from paying clients.
