bathroom with marble tiles problems with your bathroom you should not tolerate neededinthehome

As one of the most frequently used and most practically important rooms in the entire home, it’s no surprise that general wear and tear, alongside other factors, can cause problems to arise in the bathroom. While some, like a crack in a tile, might not seem like the most dire matter in the world, there are other issues that should prompt a much more proactive response. Here, we’re going to look at some of the issues you shouldn’t ignore unless you want to deal with disrupted routines, more costly repairs down the line, and potentially even some health issues.

Leaking Faucets

If the water is dripping from the faucet or even has a tiny leak around the base, this isn’t just a minor annoyance. Even if the leak seems slow, it can see you lose a significant amount of water over time, leading to major bills. It can also damage your sink and countertop, leading to mold growth among other issues. Usually, these faucet leaks are signs of a bigger problem down the line, too. A worn-out washer is an easy replacement, but if you fail to do so, your faucet can become harder and harder to turn, to the point that you have no control over its water supply.

Clogged Drains

If your drain is clogged, it’s going to become a much more immediately noticeable issue, especially if it’s in the shower or the toilet. These can escalate very quickly so even if the clog seems to dissipate after a while, you should get ready to address it all the same. Slow-draining water might be caused by a buildup of hair, soap residue, and other debris, which could be cleaned away with a drain snake and some drain cleaner. If it persists, however, avoid using drain cleaner again as it can damage pipes over time. You’re likely to require the services of a professional plumber to remove the clog effectively.

Shower Problems

Any malfunctions or issues with your shower, whether it’s uneven water pressure, a faulty showerhead, or fluctuating temperatures, should be fixed ASAP. As one of the only electronic parts in the bathroom, these are also those most prone to complex issues that have to be addressed quickly, whether due to mineral buildup inside, worn-out components, or otherwise. Working with shower repair professionals tends to be the quickest way to see what, exactly, is causing your problems. However, if you think it’s a clog, you can try soaking the showerhead in a mineral solution first, which can dissolve built-up minerals and restore your water flow.

Mold and Mildew

Protecting your bathroom from the spread of mold and mildew is vital. Aside from the fact that they are incredibly unsightly, they can also affect the respiratory health of your family. To that end, if you see it on the walls, tiles, and ceilings, you should start by trying to clean it off. If it grows back, then you may need to invest in mold-resistant sealant or anti-mold paint, depending on the surface that it’s affected. If it’s deep into the drywall or ceiling, you might need to replace the affected patch.

Poor Ventilation

One of the leading causes of mold and mildew growth is heat and humidity, often as a result of poor ventilation in your bathroom. It can also cause other persistent problems, like peeling paint and musty odors. You need to improve the airflow in your bathroom, such as by installing a new or larger exhaust fan. It should be placed directly above the shower, where the most heat and moisture is built up. Be sure to open windows after showers if the room mists up when you’re using the hot water.

Low Water Temperature

Not every problem affecting the bathroom starts in the bathroom. If you have a lower water temperature than you’re used to, especially in the winter, it can be extremely uncomfortable. Check your water heater settings to ensure it’s at an appropriate temperature (which is usually around 120 F). If that’s as expected, then it might be that your water heater is simply too small to keep up with the needs of your household. You should have your water heater serviced once a year to make sure that it’s operating as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Conclusion

You and your family deserve the level of peace and comfort that a good bathroom can offer. Be proactive in tackling the issues, little and large, that can affect you. Most importantly, know when a minor issue can grow into something much more concerning later so that you tackle it early when it’s much easier.
