woman and man with moving boxes planning budgeting for a house move movingWhen saving or budgeting for your next big move, it is quite common to focus on getting the cost of the deposit together, and the potential decorating materials for when you do move in. You may even get excited and start buying new furniture, towels and bed sheets for your new home. However, the process of moving can turn out to be a lot more costly than you may realize. Here are some of the important factors to consider when creating a budget for your move to cover all the excess costs that spring up unexpectedly along the way.

Realtor

This is considered one of the most important outgoings of your entire moving process, due to the fact that a realtor or solicitor will go through all of the correct paperwork procedures involved when buying a house. Therefore, it is sensible to hire a professional for the work, rather than cutting costs and carrying out the suitable checks yourself. A solicitor will check your contracts, ensure the cost of the property is in line with real estate normalities, deal with the land registry and conduct the transfer of funds such as stamp duty charges. It is important to hire a solicitor you will trust so looking for recommendations from friends and family, and making sure they will know the local area well will ensure you will receive the best possible service for your money. Some solicitors will have a fixed rate for their service, others may calculate the cost depending on the value of the property you are moving into, so it’s a good idea to do the math to make certain you are getting the greater deal.

Moving Van and Movers

This isn’t necessarily a forgotten charge, but an underestimated one. It’s good to do your research when its comes to choosing the movers you want to facilitate your day. When considering the moving company, you want to remember that you are literally handing over the movement and transport of some of your most expensive and sentimental items. It is essential to look at reviews in correlation with the price, as sometimes that case really is “you get what you pay for”. Boxes and packing materials also fall under this heading, as you will most likely need to purchase items such as bubble wrap and heavy-duty boxes to conclude packing before the day of the big move.

Your Time

Moving is a very costly time process, and you may find you are having to take a substantial amount of time off work. Whether you are employed by an overhead company where you can book a holiday off, or are self-employed and run your own business – if you are not being paid for this time off you may want to factor that into your budget as well. Not only do you have to pack your entire house up, but you also have to transport it and unpack on the other end – which will take you a lot longer than you expected no matter how much time you have booked off.

Hopefully, this has given you some food for thought when considering your moving budget and helped you to avoid getting caught by an unexpected cost.
