Remove everything from the area
Firstly, it’s a good idea to remove everything from the area. This will help provide you with a blank canvas so that you can hopefully rejig the space to work better.
Removing everything – and that’s every bit of furniture available – will be a challenge, so it’s a good idea to go room by room, rather than trying to do the entirety of the home at once. It would also make it quite challenging to remove everything in your home and to put it outside.
When you remove everything, you ensure you get every single belonging in that room out so that you can properly assess what you need and what you don’t need.
Decide on what to discard
Once you’ve removed everything, it’s then a good point at which to go through it all bit by bit. Discarding things that you don’t need is something that can often be easy but at other times difficult when you’ve got things that might be sentimental.
It’s important to understand what is considered sentimental and meaningful and what might be just rubbish that is cluttering up your space unnecessarily.
With that being said, go through everything with a fine-tooth comb so that you have whittled down everything in your possession as swiftly and effectively as possible.
Consider what could be sold or given away
When decluttering your space, it’s always handy to look at what could be sold or given away. Selling certain items might bring you a small fortune, whereas others might be fairly low in value but would provide much more value to someone else in another home.
That’s why it’s a good idea to go room by room and put things into separate bags. One for discarding, one for selling, and another for donations. For anything you want to keep but could do without in your home, you might want to think about self storage options.
Rearrange the room with a new layout
Once you’ve decluttered everything, you’ll want to look at rearranging the room in question. For some, you might keep the same configuration but for others, it might be a new opportunity to experiment with the space and possibly make it more functional than it was prior to when you first arranged the space with the furniture in tow.
Keep on top of what you bring into the space
Finally, when it comes to keeping on top of what you bring into the home, be aware of what is needed and what might have just been a haphazard buy that you don’t need.
These tips will help you keep on top of your home’s clutter and maximize its efficiency too.
