If you don’t get that, then it is very difficult for you to recharge, and you may struggle. What can you do to make your home feel irresistibly cosy as we head towards the cooler months of the year?
Banish big overhead lights
One of the best things you can do to make your home feel irresistibly cosy is to banish big overhead lights. While these might have been practical in the past, they’re usually not what you need in your living room and dining spaces, especially if you’re using mobile devices like laptops and smartphones, which already have strong backlights so you can see what you’re doing.
Harsh lighting is one of the biggest enemies of cosiness, and it can actually interrupt your sleep patterns. Soft lighting in the evening is essential if you want to get a good night’s rest and feel refreshed for the next day.
Curate a signature scent
If you haven’t done so already, you’ll also want to curate a signature scent. These can have a profound effect on your emotional state and sense of well-being. The sense of smell is one of the most repressed in Western culture right now, but it’s also one of the most powerful for connecting you to yourself.
You’ve probably had memories of specific smells that have come to you from the past and transported you almost nostalgically back to those events and times in your life. You’ve also had experiences where you’ve walked into a room with the smell of lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus and felt immediately calmed and relaxed by it.
Think about what type of scents you want in your home, and then implement them.
Get the temperature right
Of course, you’ll also want to do the basics, like getting the temperature right. If you’re constantly in a cold or drafty home, it can be very unpleasant. Always go to experts like Prime Comfort Heating & Cooling for advice on how to install and maintain your HVAC equipment. Don’t try to install or service it yourself, as you may cause damage or invalidate the warranty.
Bring the outdoors inside
Bringing specific outdoor elements inside can also have a positive effect on the cosiness of your home. For example, putting freshly cut branches on a mantle piece or adding structural snake plants to your interiors can have a profound effect on you psychologically. It can affect how you ultimately feel when you finally sit down to a book or a nice cup of coffee in the evening.
Display meaningful clutter
Finally, don’t just accept advice to remove all clutter from your home. Instead, look for clutter that you can display meaningfully. That will actually bring you joy while you’re in the same room as your items.
