front exterior of home with wrought iron chairs and table and flowers does your home's exterior need a refresh for summer neededinthehome

While a lot of us are still getting wind and rain a-plenty, the signs of summer coming up around the corner are starting to show themselves a lot more, lately. It’s hard not to notice the rise in temperature, and it might have you thinking about when you will finally get to spend time out in the garden again. Before you rush to do that, however, you might want to take a more scrutinous eye over the exterior of the home. The wind and weather might have a little more to spoil it than you realize and that could mean there’s some work to do before you’re able to relax just yet.

Start with the backyard

Perhaps the most notable part of the exterior that needs your immediate attention is the backyard. With spring well and truly underway, your lawn has likely already grown a few inches and, if you haven’t taken care of it yet, now is the time. This is the perfect time of year to check the health of the lawn and to scarify the lawn or do any seed planting that you might need. Consider if you need the help of a backyard specialist or an arborist to help you healthily trim your bushes and trees, as well.

Check the boundary of the garden

When the weather is not all that nice, you’re a lot less likely to check the fixtures surrounding the backyard, as well. In particular, it’s worth looking at your fence. It is, after all, one of the first parts of the home that anyone is going to see. Not only can the finishes and paint fade on fences, leading to rot and general degradation, but they can also get damaged over the months. You might simply need to repaint the fence to bring it back to its glory days but, if not, you may want to consider getting a wood fence replacement sooner rather than later. After all, not only is your fence an aesthetic component of the backyard, but it could be playing a security or privacy role, as well.

Give your surfaces a once over

The comfort and attractiveness of your garden depend on more than just how you take care of your greenery, too. The constructed elements of it need some attention, too. During the fall and winter, organic matter comes off of trees and gets picked up and spread by the wind and, during the rainy season of spring, pollen and other natural particulates are in the air, and the rain can cause them to be beaten into your stone, concrete, and other smooth materials. This can live things with a slick, slippery coating or algae that not only looks dirty but can be a serious slipping hazard. Renting a power washer can help you restore these parts of the exterior to their best condition. Professional balcony inspections can help make sure outdoor areas are safe to use, without any warping or missing screws.

Don’t forget to look up

While your attention might be what’s immediately visible and around you in your garden and exterior, there is one part of the home that should never escape your notice: the roof. You should check your roof roughly twice a year. Doing it at the turn of the season is a good idea, to make sure that you get it fixed before the rainy season, if you need it.

Additionally, using barrier coating can be an effective way to safeguard your home against the impacts of climate change. In fact, according to the professionals at ThermaCote Thermal Barrier Coating can be a wise decision. It helps to reflect heat away from the roof during the summer months, keeping your home cooler. As a result, it potentially reduces the cooling costs. However, preventive measures like these become even more important when you identify any roof problems on your property. In case you find any roofing problems, you need to find a reliable roofer who can help you out. It’s such a big deal if there’s damage to your room because this can affect the structural integrity of your home.

Even a single cracked, broken, or missing tile can begin to let a lot of water into the home. It’s most likely that you may need a single replacement tile, but you should still be mindful of the possibility that you will have to replace the roof if it has gotten too old.

Keep an eye out for pests

You’re not the only one getting busier now that the weather is better. The same can be said for pests, as well. Pests often invade homes during the winter, but many of them hibernate, making it difficult to notice their presence. It’s during the spring and summer that you should be a lot more vigilant, keeping an eye out for the signs of infestation. This can include odd smells, sights of droppings, wood scrapings, and much more. If you get any suspicions that your home has become a pad for pests, then getting in touch with a pest control team ASAP is the right choice.

With a refresh, as mentioned above, your home will be ready to welcome the summer and ready for you to do nothing but relax. Take the time to get it right now so you have less work when the weather’s right.

Great question! A fresh exterior can completely transform the curb appeal of your home just in time for summer. I love the idea of adding bright colors, updating landscaping, or even just giving a good power wash to make everything pop. It’s the perfect opportunity to create a welcoming atmosphere for gatherings and outdoor fun
