Cheap Wedding Ideas For Summer Outdoor Receptions
Here are a few ways you can save money on that special day.
Where It's Located
One of the ways to save wedding budget is by choosing carefully where you have your wedding reception. If you are able to have it in one of the following locations, you may be able to save money on food compared to what a reception hall, wedding center or building with a dinner where the guests are served. With outdoor venues, the guest tend to expect to serve themselves and less expensive fare. They also expect to have paper plates and plastic ware in this setting.
Rent A Park Shelter
Have your wedding, reception, or both outside in a park shelter. We have had family members do this during the sunny daytime and it was just perfect! Even if the weather turns sour, you'll have the shelter “just in case”. Some parks even have a playground and restroom nearby. These are usually equipped with plenty of parking space as well.
Rent Someone's Country Property
Do you know someone that lives in the country and has a lot of open flat space where you could put up some large tents and rent some portable toilets and hand washing units to be put onsite for the occasion? You could even talk to some of your family members to make a joint purchase on a large party tent so everyone can take turns using it for graduation parties, retirement celebrations, 50th birthday parties, 25th wedding anniversaries and more weddings for years to come.
Inexpensive Wedding Favors
For cheap wedding favors at this type of event, you could offer guests some of these options…
During The Wedding Ceremony
It could be a hot day and you want everyone to “keep their cool” because that helps you to keep yours. This is one great way to do it.

After you are officially married, why not let the best man and maid of honor pop some confetti over you to celebrate with some biodegradable tissue paper inside?

Place Setting Items
These are items that will be around the dinner plates at the tables where your guests will dine.
You can get purified water in water bottles and get a water bottle label template to download and print your own personalized labels to put around the water bottles announcing your names and wedding date.
There are some beautiful hand painted butterflies that you can spread on the tables.
Check out these adorable hand-painted bride and groom clothespins that open and close to show the bride and groom getting married and kissing.
Items At The Party Favor Table
It is getting more common to see a party favor table at wedding receptions. Here are some items that would work well at an outdoor event for the guests to take with them as a memento of the day.
Get some personalized wildflower seed packets with your names and date.
If you get some mini metal pails you could put a label on it with your names and date, plus fill it with candy. At my cousin's wedding, they had chocolate candy rocks, which would be perfect for an outdoor wedding.
For a sunny, outdoor venue, it is nice to offer sunglasses with personalized labels on the side like those shown in the photo below.
Activities To Keep Guests Busy
Not everyone is into dancing. It may be nice to offer some other options, like Personalized Playing Cards.
Let Love Sparkle Personalized Wedding Sparkler Tags are very popular in the summer, especially if you are at a relative's home in the country and some fireworks will be shot off in the evening.

This is very ideal when you are going somewhere. Not only when you are having a special event with the family. For me, we go camping. I should have a portable toilet with us whenever we go. It helps us be comfortable with the places we are going.

Adorable ideas! I love my friends wanted to have wedding dreams in summer maybe because it’s more convenient especially if it’s a beach wedding. One of the things I consider when I go to weddings and (hopefully mine soon haha) is taking a lot of photos and videos just to capture the moments to look back on. Anyways, thanks for sharing.

I like the consideration of having an open wedding in the country. My fiancee is longing to get married, it is amazing that you can just rent a tent along with portable toilet rentals with it. We will need a sanitation expert to guide us on this.

I really like your idea to rent a party tent for a reception. My sister is getting married and is wanting an outdoor reception but is worried about potential weather issues. Renting a tent seems like the perfect solution for that!

Really helpful tips! My fiance and I are still deciding whether to do our wedding indoor or outdoor because the rainy season has just started here in our country. We would still want an outdoor wedding and the tent in the photo you included here just gave me an idea. Thank you!
