DIY Reusable Microwave Potato Bag FREE Sewing Tutorial
A reusable microwave potato bag is easy to make and they are great gifts (along with a bag of potatoes) for Moms, Grandmas, Dads, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles, Bridal Showers, Graduation, Christmas and College Student gifts. Make your own reusable microwave potato bag for yourself or as a practical and unique gift with this sewing tutorial. In our large family of ten, we have two and put 5 potatoes in each. They take their turn in the microwave. The earliest ones done go to the youngest children as they have had more time to cool. I leave them in the bag until serving, so they are still very warm.

No fork-poking is necessary to make these potatoes in the microwave! This is a healthy option for the potato lover as they are steam cooked so the potatoes will not dry out and lose nutrients while cooking in the microwave.

Technique:
1. Lay your cutting mat on a clean surface and lay your folded over fabric on it. Make a cut 12 inches by 22 inches. You now have two pieces this size.
2. Lay a single layer of the cotton batting on your cutting board and make a cut 12 inches by 22 inches.
Be sure it says “microwave safe” or “microwave friendly” somewhere on the packaging. If not, double-check that the fabric is 100% cotton as polyester will burn in the microwave.
3. Put the right sides (pretty printed sides) of the fabric together laid out flat like a rectangle and place the cotton batting on top of that.
4. Sew around the edge, but leave a three-finger-size space about 1/3 down one of the longer sides.
To leave the three-finger-space, stop sewing, lift the presser foot and pull your fabric through as far as you want it, then put the presser foot back down and continue sewing. The thread will be a straight line not attached to the fabric on both sides.
5. Cut the threads around the three-finger-space on both sides.
6. Turn it completely inside out by pulling the fabric through the three-finger-sized hole between the pretty right sides of the fabric.
7. Push out the 4 corners. The cotton batting will be in the middle when finished with this step and the pretty right side of the fabric will be on the top and bottom.

8. Now fold one of the short ends over about 2 inches (that will be your folded side up in the microwave when you cook the potatoes).
9. Take that side and fold it up and over until that end reaches the other end on the opposite side.
10. Now the bottom is the big fold and the top is the straight fabric with the short microwave vent fold above it. Sew down the edges of the left and right sides. Do not sew the top or bottom.
11. Now turn the bag inside out pushing out the bottom corners.
12. Fold the top vent fold inside out and over the open hole of the bag to make it closed.
13. Push out all the corners nearest to the vent.
14. If it is a gift, print instructions for use and place that sheet inside (get them HERE). Machine wash warm, dry normal when dirty. I rarely wash mine.
When showing at a craft sale, have one on display with raw potatoes sitting on top of it. Make signs that say, “Great Gift For: Graduation, College Student, Teenagers, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Teachers, Babysitters, Day Care Providers, Dieters, Popcorn Lovers, Campers, Vacationers, Hotel Stayers, Birthday, Christmas, Easter, Spring Break, Wedding Gifts, Wedding Showers” or whatever you want to put.

Save Money On Bulk Fabric
If you buy fabric or notions to make products to resell, I HAVE to tell you how to save money on your fabric! So, I wish I would have known this sooner because I could have saved SO much money, but I just learned about it within the last few months. I signed up for a business account at Fabric.com. It was so simple to do. I just had to type in my Etsy shop name. Once they verified that it was a legit shop, they approved me and now I get 10% off EVERY purchase! I do have to type a discount code in every time I buy, but I don't mind! They have other ways to approve you as well.
When I purchase, I go big because at Fabric.com if you buy more than 15 yards of fabric at a time, you get a huge discount! I am also sure to buy at least $50 worth of product (after the discount) so that I get free shipping within the United States. That saves me money too! I have already saved about $50 in the last month! Why didn't I know this sooner? Ugh! At least you won't make the same mistake. Now that you know, don't miss it. Sign up before you forget. It doesn't cost a penny, it will only SAVE YOU MONEY!
