While no one really wants to spend their weekends fixing problems around their home when they could be relaxing with their feet up on their sofa, binge watching their favorite series on Netflix – you don't want to be messing around with repairs when you're on a vacation either. So do things while you can so you don't have a list of things to worry about further down the line.

There are many issues that can arise in a home, whether that be down to something not being fitted properly, not looking after it how you should, or just because the home that you live in is rather old. Fortunately, there are plenty of solutions, so never get overwhelmed or think that a problem can't be solved, because you always have options.

The structure

It's very important to have a walk around your house and inspect any cracks or crumbling that you may have on the walls, ceiling, or floor. Then have another look in a couple of weeks time to see if there have been any changes. This is vital because while some cracks are harmless and won't cause you any problems, some may be gradually getting worse over time, and that means you need to take action quickly before anything starts to fall down. This is most common in particularly old houses, so if your house is new, you shouldn't be experiencing anything like this yet. So just be observant and keep an eye on any changes.

The plumbing

This means wherever you have drains: the toilet, the sink, the shower, etc. Sometimes you may get a blockage or a leak in one of the pipes. It might be as simple as tightening things yourself, or you may have to call in a plumber to properly clean out the drain or fix any cracks that there may be in the pipelines. It's a good idea to have the number of the local professionals on tap so that if you ever have a problem, you know exactly who to call – especially in the event of an emergency.

The mould

If you suffer from mould or damp in your home, then you need to get this seen to very quickly, as the longer you leave it, the more toxic it can become, which – if left untreated – can make you seriously ill. Common mould is found in the bathroom due to the hot steam from having a shower, and this is usually harmless and can be scrubbed off. The more serious cases usually stem from the basement, and because they aren't regularly visited, they can go from 0 to 100 in a matter of weeks. So make sure you take a look, and if you see anything worrying like damp spots on the wall or ceiling, or fungus growing – call a professional immediately before it spreads.

So make sure you get all these things checked out before you plan on going away. Then you can enjoy your vacation without a care in the world.

It’s so important to take care of the house before leaving it. Cracks or crumbling on the walls, ceiling.. – it’s important to check that but in my opinion, one of the most important things before living the house is checking if there are any devices plugged in. If not , then great. Your should never leave the house before turning lights off, making sure your stove is off and so on.
