Seasonal weather changes have an impact on your home and its wear and tear, that’s why regular maintenance is the only way to keep your home in great shape. Constantly doing small tasks around the house throughout the year can prevent small issues from turning into big headaches. So, we have broken down the maintenance of each season and listed tasks that you should tackle to keep your home running smoothly and comfortably all year round.

Spring:

Spring is the perfect month to give your home a little TLC after the long winter months; with that in mind, you could start by inspecting your roof for any signs of damage—loose shingles, cracked tiles, or any other issues that might have happened during the winter. Now is the best time to clean out the gutters because leaves or debris could cause blockages and lead to water damage; you want to avoid that.

So what you could do is walk around your home and check for any cracks in the foundation or walls. It might be better to address these issues now before they get even worse. And when it comes to inside the house, check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace any batteries that might not work anymore.

Summer:

As Summer approaches and temperatures rise, your AC system becomes your best friend. But we suggest that before that summer heat kicks in, you pay some attention to it. A great way to start AC repair can be cleaning or replacing the air filter, because a dirty filter can reduce efficiency and lead to a higher energy bill. And to ensure proper ventilation you can also clear any debris around the outdoor unit. While you’re at it, you might as well inspect your windows and doors for any gaps or cracks where cool air might escape.

Fall:

As the Autumn leaves start to fall from the trees, it’s time to get your home ready for the cold weather approaching so you can start by cleaning out your gutters again to prevent clogs and ice dams when the snow arrives. Now is the best time to inspect your heating system and could change the furnace filter. Also, maybe consider scheduling a professional inspection just to make sure everything is in running order.

Fall is also the season to check your home’s insulation. When you have proper insulation, it makes a big difference in keeping your home warm and saving you money on energy bills. If you have a fireplace, the best advice would be to check and clean your chimney.

Winter:

Winter can be harsh on your home so protect your pipes from freezing by insulating any exposed pipes, especially those in unheated areas like the garage or basement. And if you are situated in a heavy snowfall area, make sure to clear snow and ice from your roof and gutters to prevent damage.

Take a few minutes to test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors again because the winter months often bring increased use of heating systems.

Year-Round:

If you focus on spreading out these maintenance tasks throughout the year, you can really keep your home in its best shape. If you pay regular attention to these areas, it will save you money on repairs and keep your home safe and warm. Take it one season at a time.
