The one place that you want to head to – other than your bed – when you get home from work is the lounge. The main room in your home where everyone congregates is the one that has the best furniture, the cosiest fire and the biggest television with the surround system that cost a bomb. The whole point of having a lounge is to, well, lounge!

When you get home from work, you want to be able to kick off your shoes by the front door, sink your toes into thick carpets and pad across to the many bean bag chairs that you have dotted around the room just waiting for you to dive into. You want to turn on the fire and hear it crackling while you’re sitting in ultimate comfort. And you want to be able to do this without spending a huge amount of money. Life these days is busier and more expensive than ever, so it makes perfect sense that you want to make a concentrated effort to switch off and relax. After all, the chaos outside the house doesn’t have to follow you inside, does it? You can very easily set a calming, relaxed tone for your home. You just have to be willing to go the extra mile to find what you need. So, how can you ensure that the house you are about to walk into is one that you crave seeing at the end of a very long day?
- Fill the lounge with flowers. Sure, you can use good old potted plants to bring a little of the natural world inside, but flowers are so much sweeter and smell so much nicer. You need to be able to relax and feel happy in your home; flowers can instantly lift your spirits and give the room a natural fragrance to soothe you.
- Lighting is really important. Cosy fires aside, your house should have the right lighting for the activities that you want to do. When you’re lounging around trying to relax and binge watch the latest box set, you need low lighting that is relaxed and atmospheric. For reading, these amazing tall lamps are the perfect addition to your home.
- Taking away the clutter from your lounge is one of the best ways that you can create a relaxed environment. When you cannot see mess, you cannot be distracted and annoyed by it. Mess is for outside the home, so stop hoarding everything you find in thrift stores and get things straight. It’s all about the mood.
- Layering the textiles in the room is a perfect way to give the illusion of comfort and cosyness. You may already have thick carpets, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add deliciously thick rugs on top.
Your living room needs to have an ambience about it that makes you think of a highly relaxing environment. You don’t even have to spend a lot to get it there: doing it up in pieces is going to give you the laziest and most luxurious lounge you’ve ever loved.
