Coming home from a holiday is never easy. You’ve spent the last few days or weeks away from the real world, without responsibility and just enjoying quality time with your loved ones. You haven’t had to worry about cooking, cleaning, washing, or just general day to day stresses. You’ve also not had to think about work and have just been your best, carefree self. This is why coming home from holiday can feel so difficult and something you just don’t want to do. Thankfully, there are a few things you can try that can make coming home from holiday that bit easier. Keep on reading to find out more and get inspired to improve your next vacation return.

Clean your house for when you come back

One of the worst things about returning from a holiday is walking back into a messy home. Before you leave, try and spend a little time tidying up, taking the bins out and making sure everything feels fresh. It might feel like the last thing you want to do before heading off, but it will make such a difference when you return. If you don’t have time, you could even consider hiring a cleaner so you come back to a spotless house that instantly helps you feel more relaxed. Ensure you read reviews and hire someone you can trust.

Have food ready for your return

After traveling home, the last thing you want to do is go straight to a supermarket or start cooking from scratch. Before going away, ensure you have some easy meals in the freezer or cupboard ready for you to return to, particularly if you are landing late and will need dinner before you go to bed. You could also arrange for a supermarket delivery to arrive shortly after you come back, or ask a trusted relative or friend to pick up some basics like bread or milk for you before you come home. Having snacks, milk for a cup of tea or coffee or something comforting for dinner can make it a lot easier to settle back into everyday life.

Put fresh bed covers on

There is nothing better than coming home tired from travelling and climbing into a freshly made bed. Before leaving for your trip, put clean bedding on so it’s ready for your return. It’s a simple thing to do, but it instantly makes your home feel cosy and welcoming after being away. Pair it with a tidy bedroom and you’ll thank yourself later.

Plan your next trip

One of the best ways to beat the post-holiday blues is to have something else to look forward to. It doesn’t need to be another huge holiday abroad either (although this isn’t a bad idea if you can afford it!), it could simply be a weekend away, a staycation with a hot tub or even a fun day trip. Having plans in the diary can help keep your mood up and stop that feeling of sadness that often comes after a great holiday. Pop that straight in your calendar and you won’t feel the holiday blues anywhere near as much as you would do otherwise!

Have a couple of days to get back into the swing of things

If possible, avoid returning home the night before you have to go straight back to work or school. Giving yourself a day or two to unpack, catch up on washing and slowly ease back into your routine can make a huge difference. It gives you time to mentally reset rather than feeling instantly overwhelmed the moment you walk through the door. You can relax, get over jet lag if you did have to fly somewhere far, and just settle back easily as opposed to rushing into something overwhelming.

These are just a few top tips that should make coming home from your next holiday that bit easier. Whether you clean your house before you go or have a professional do it for you, ensure it’s all ready for you to come back to and feel relief to be back in your surroundings. Planning another trip to look forward to is another fantastic way of not feeling holiday blues as you know there is something in the calendar you can really get excited for. What are some top tips you have for making returning from a holiday that bit easier? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
