We all know that saving money is difficult in this day and age. The cost of living is constantly rising while wages and salaries don’t seem to be budging. Due to the stagnation in income, saving for a mortgage seems more and more out of reach for the majority of individuals and families looking to move onto the property ladder. But does that mean you need to give up on your dreams of ever owning your very own home? Well, that might not be the case. As long as you are careful with your money and budget wisely, you should in fact be able to save enough to put down on a new home. Sure, it may take a little longer than it used to, but you should get there eventually.

First of all, though, there are some questions you need to be able to answer. Checking your answers will help you figure out whether you really are ready to apply for that all-important mortgage!
Am I Ready To Start All The Research?
Before you apply for a mortgage you will need to carry out plenty of research to make sure that you are going for the best one for you. No two mortgages are the same and some will be more affordable and flexible than others. If you get onto mortgage mailing lists, you should be able to see the wide range of mortgages that are available. Unfortunately, figuring out which is best for you will take a lot of painstaking research. Do you have the time to take on all that research? This is something you need to consider as it will certainly consume a lot of your life once you start!
Is It Possible For Me To Stop Renting?
While you are saving for a deposit and applying to different lenders, it really is important to try and cut down on all your expenses. And that includes rent, if possible. Do you think you would be able to move back in with your parents for a couple of months while you are in the final stages of saving and applying? Or maybe there is another relative or friend who can help you out? It really is worth moving into rent-free accommodation for the time being as this will save you heaps.
Do I Look Attractive To Lenders?
Next, you just need to make sure that you look attractive to all the lenders you are applying to. If you don’t look like you are in a stable financial situation or don't already have a home to sell, then you might find you keep on getting knocked back. Wondering how you can look as attractive as possible? First of all, you need to fix any issues with your credit rating. Then, you just need to make sure you are paying all your monthly bills on time. The records of when you pay your bills will be visible to all mortgage lenders – there is nothing you can hide from them!
Hopefully, once you’ve answered these questions, you’ll be good to apply for a mortgage!
