While your home may feel like it’s running efficiently, there are aspects of the home that will often fall into disarray over time.

Old, inefficient windows are often one of those problem areas that significantly increase household expenses through eye-watering energy bills and increased maintenance costs, too.

Add that and the potential damage that can be caused to your property, and not addressing old windows is something that can be endlessly costly.

Let’s take a look at some of the key signs that it’s time for a window upgrade for the benefit of your property.

Creeping energy bills

If you find that your heating or cooling costs are rising despite a similar usage, then it is likely that your windows are leaking air and forcing your heating systems to work harder as a result.

Noticeable drafts and cold spots

A noticeable draft or cold spots around the home will indicate failed weather seals or warped frames that need addressing quickly, especially before the cooler weather hits.

Condensation between glass panes

Fog or moisture that is trapped between double-glazing layers will mean that the seal has failed, and that eliminates the ability for your property’s windows to insulate properly.

Difficulty opening or closing

Stuck, damaged, or warped windows that won’t stay open or shut are safety risks. It also indicates that the frame has structural issues that need fixing.

Visible damage or decay

Any signs of rotting timbers, chipped and flaking paint, or cracked glass are indicators that your windows are failing.

Intrusive outside noise

If you’re able to hear every passing car, then your windows are likely failing to provide adequate sound insulation as a result.

Fading furniture or flooring

If your carpets or furniture seem to be fading, then your windows are likely lacking proper UV-filtering technology.

How old windows will cost you more

Are your old windows costing you more? Well, when it comes to having older windows in place, they’re often inefficient in energy saving. They allow for excessive heat transfer, and so upgrading to modern double-glazed windows or triple glazing can help to significantly reduce heat loss and lower annual bills as a result.

There’s also the cost of hidden damage repairs to take on, as well as the reduced property value that might come about by having outdated and damaged windows. These all lower your curb appeal and can deter potential buyers, too.

The benefits of upgrading your windows

There are certainly some great benefits to upgrading your windows, and these are worth considering.

For one, you can help improve your home’s security by delivering advanced, multi-point locking systems, unlike old and flimsy frames.

Modern windows provide much more in the way of enhanced comfort, and it reduces the amount of maintenance that you have to spend on older windows over time.

Of course, you’ve also got the added benefit that it boosts your home’s value too, making it a strong selling point for future buyers.

If you’re experiencing issues with your old windows, then now’s the time to invest the money and get better windows for your home’s energy efficiency this year.
