mother and her four children standing in front of an old fashioned log cabin tips for bonding with your family neededinthehome

Keeping your family close can be easy and also difficult during the age of technology. It's hard to get anybody to put their devices down for you to enjoy device free bonding time together. To make it happen you have to be strategic and purposeful about it.

Bonding should never take a back seat when it comes to family. By setting aside dedicated time to have a family time you will strike up a connection and create lasting memories. Here are some ideas for a memorable family bonding experience.

Family Movie Marathon

One of the most affordable ways to spend time together with your family is to have a movie marathon with them. Be sure to choose a theme like “knights in shining armor” an animated favorite.

You may even choose superhero adventures as well. Let each family member pick a movie, since that makes it more exciting. Create your own concession stand that has drinks, candy and popcorn.

You can even create movie tickets out of cardstock for each person, to add some fun and a cinematic touch to the entire night.

History Field Trip

Another way to bond with your family is to read a book together each night before bed and then take a field trip to make the book really come alive. Here is an example, read a book by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which talks about her time growing up in the pioneer days of the United States of America.

Then visit a Laura Ingalls Days event near you. At these events, you can witness how they made rope, did blacksmithing, how they made yarn and more. There may even be a museum at the site that gives you even more history of that time.

Game Night Extravaganza

Turn off the screen then bring out the board games for your family game night. Games such as charades, Scrabble and Monopoly can provide a lot of laughter and entertainment for hours on end.

You can even create a family tournament that will help you keep the score throughout the night so that you will know exactly where you stand. Having a bit of competitive fun can be bonding as well. Friendly competition will bring out the playful side of the family and foster teamwork and communication.

Craft Night

Another fun idea that you may want to try out is to have a craft night. Get creative with supplies such as markers, paints and paper to paint on. Everyone can create their own masterpiece.

You can create handmade cards, personalized artwork and even design picture frames. Crafting not only stimulates the imagination but it's also going to provide you with some relaxing ways to bond with your family. You will end up having keepsakes from the evening that will remind you of all the fun memories you made.

Baking Contest

If your entire family has a sweet tooth it's time to play into that. Have a little baking contest where you have a bake off.

Try simple recipes like cookies or cupcakes to see who can create the most creative decorations and come up with the tastiest flavor combinations. This is something that everyone can participate in. The kids can help to mix and stir ingredients and those who are old enough can read the recipe aloud while all the mixing is taking place. At the end you can all taste each other's creation and vote for who had the best ones.

Family bonding time is something that should never be overlooked at any time. By doing just a few simple activities with your family you are bound to see some real benefits.
