1 Train
If you live in a metropolitan area and commute by train, your trip will be very efficient. With public transportation readily available, this is one of the most efficient commutes for employees who work long hours at their job site. The cost of gas isn't too high either, as trains don't rely on petroleum-like cars.
Your time spent commuting may vary depending on how far away from the city center you reside in and how often subway/trains run throughout the day. Also, remember that weekends tend to have fewer services provided, so if you're working over Saturday and Sunday, plan accordingly! The average commute via rail ranges between 30-60 minutes each way (or more). Keep these factors in mind when selecting a train route. Public transportation is a great way to commute to work for employees who travel at least 20 miles round trip, have a flexible schedule, and don't mind waiting for their train to arrive.
2 Own Vehicle
If you're commuting to work by car, the best way to commute is if your company reimburses for gas and provides a parking spot. Owning an efficient vehicle will make your trip more cost-effective in terms of mileage per gallon traveled and total travel time each day.
Purchasing an electric or hybrid vehicle can be expensive upfront, but it saves money in the long run (with low maintenance costs and no need for gasoline). If you own a regular car that requires petroleum fuel, don't forget about insurance rates! The average commute via car ranges between 10-120 minutes each way (or more). Keep these factors in mind when selecting a route with traffic included during rush times. Also, remember the chances of you getting into an accident are much higher compared to public transportation, so be sure to have your car crash lawyer on speed dial for when it does happen.
3 Uber /Lyft
In metropolitan areas, Uber and Lyft are great ways to commute. Without owning or leasing a car, it's possible to be picked up from your home and dropped off at work by a professional driver promptly. The cost of gas is relatively low since the drivers use their cars for this ride-sharing service too! Again, if you're commuting long distances, consider allocating more time to travel and purchasing accident insurance coverage just in case something happens during your journey. Your average commute via ‘ride sharing' ranges between 30-60 minutes each way (or less). Keep these factors in mind when selecting an efficient route with traffic included during rush times. Be aware that may not always be available, so make sure you plan.
There are many ways to commute to work for corporate employees. For the most efficient commutes, consider taking public transportation or ride-sharing if you own a car.
