Did you ever find school boring? If you did, there’s a good chance your child does too. And even when you’re home schooling your little one, it can get boring after a while – especially due to the home classroom’s close proximity to your child’s toys and games upstairs!

So what can you do? You want your child to be able to focus, and to enjoy their time learning with you, but that doesn’t tend to come naturally. As a result, you’re going to have to step up your home schooling ideas a little, and we’ve got some ideas below to help with that.

Have a Weekly Trip

If the kids are able to look forward to some time outside every single week, they’ll be much more invested in their studies. And these weekly trips can be about anything, and take your class anywhere! Maybe a science lesson involves hunting bugs or collecting leaves? Maybe a maths lesson that involves a visit to a nearby observatory? Or a history lesson that takes you to a nearby ruin or museum? As long as you’re out and about, the kids won’t really mind where you’re off to!

Make Traditional Subjects More Creative

Subjects such as Math and English can get quite boring when taught at the traditional level. It used to be that kids sat in a classroom in silence and simply copied off the board, or read the assigned books and did their best with interpreting the text. But no longer do kids have to struggle along with these methods! As a home schooling parent, you can make these subjects a lot more creative.

After all, you’ve got the online world to rely on now, and platforms like Age of Learning can help you to keep the kids engaged on their level. You can turn these subjects into more of a game, as well as keep the curriculum modern enough for the kids to naturally follow along with. All in all, you don’t have to let your kids be bored!

Make Fridays Special

Friday is traditionally the end of the school week, and that means this day counts for something special. So, why not do something special when the weekend rolls around? Fridays should always be a little bit fun, to congratulate your kids on their week of hard work, and you could even come up with a rotating schedule of fun things to do on a Friday.

A lot of parents like to set up a quiz, either about the week’s classes or about what news stories have come out that week. Some even like to discount the final period of the day for something more fun, such as a ‘show and tell’ – as long as there’s something to look forward to at the end of the week, your kids are unlikely to be bored.

If you’re worried about your children’s mood during a home school class, you just need to make it a bit more fun!
