It's time for me to tell you about my experience with the Walmart Plus Membership. I took advantage of the free trial period within the last 5 months. I had never thought of trying it before because I live in a tiny village without a Walmart, but there is a Walmart in the next town.

The Free Trial
No payment is required for 30 days with the Walmart + Membership, after that, you can sign up for a monthly or annual fee. If you qualify for government assistance, you get 50% off your membership. During your free trial, you get all the benefits (mentioned below) you would get throughout the rest of the year. I think that is nice because then you can really dig in and try all of it's benefits and see if it is a good fit for you. *Restrictions apply. One free trial per member. See benefit terms at the bottom of the sign up page.
Right now, there is a special offer going on! Returning and expired Walmart+ Subscribers can get a one-year subscription to Walmart Plus for just $49! Just log in to your account, go to the signup page, and look for the popup offer to get 50% off.
If you take advantage of the trial and decide it's not for you, just be sure to cancel before the trial is over.
How I Heard About It
I learned online from other bloggers I follow that they were using Walmart + and getting groceries delivered right to their door, gas savings, free shipping and more. I was thinking that would be nice because my husband and I are currently sharing one vehicle and it is hard to get the van to go shopping, or even do the Walmart Pick Up.
My adult son started doing delivery apps as a side hustle and he was approved for Spark, which is a delivery app that Walmart, Sams and other stores use to hire drivers to deliver their products. He mentioned one day that he got a delivery for items from a Walmart in one city to a town 40 minutes away from the store!
I was surprised, but still didn't take action. Then one day, he said he took a delivery to our town because it was the end of his work day, and it was in our neighborhood, so it was like getting paid to drive home! That was when I decided, okay, I need to give this a try. If my neighbor is using it, I need to at least try it!
How It Works
I found out that everything works through the same Walmart account. I already had an account with Walmart for my online purchases shipped to my home, for photo book purchases, and for Walmart pick up. So when I signed up, it connected to that account. These are the steps of what to do…
- Sign in to your Walmart account.
- Choose a store to deliver to me. I just choose the closest Walmart.
- Choose a time for delivery. Some faster options cost money, but the regular delivery times are free with my membership.
- Select my items and add them to my cart. Sometimes it takes me too long to make decisions (or I get distracted by my children's needs) and I need to change my delivery time. I have had heavy kitty litter and pet food bags delivered (no extra charge for the heaviness), school supplies, clothing, and gifts for family members in addition to groceries. I found out that they will not deliver birthday cakes. You can order cakes through the app, but you still have to go to the bakery to pick them up. They will also not bring cakes to the drive up area, just so you know.
- Go to the check out screen, check your address, payment type (you can add your EBT to this page too as a form of payment for food) and choose if you want substitutions or not. Choose if you want items left at the front door. (I choose this because we have a dog that often wants to run out the front door!) Remember to leave a tip. I do $5 to $12 per delivery. My son has received tips from $4 to $40! (The higher tips are usually from offices having a work party.) Also check the box that you want text notifications of when items will be delivered.
- Check out.
- You have a certain amount of minutes to make changes.
- Watch your phone to see what's happening. The notifications will say something like, “Marcela is shopping for your items.” “Marcela is pulling into your neighborhood.” “Marcela is approaching your door.” “Your items have been delivered.”
- If your items were left at the door, (I have to put my dog in the kennel first.) open the door and bring in all of your bags of groceries.
- Go in to your app and leave a review.
Some of the Benefits
With a Walmart + membership, you get so many benefits! You can save money on delivery, shipping, gas, and more! (In fact, Walmart estimates a membership can save you up to $1300 per year!) In addition to savings, members also have other great perks and can earn Walmart Rewards.
Here is a list of some of the benefits:
- FREE next-day and two-day shipping on all orders, no minimum
- FREE unlimited grocery delivery from your local Walmart
- FREE returns from the comfort of your home (I had to do this one time because I received the wrong item. I just printed a page from the Walmart app and a driver came to my front door to pick it up. I didn't have to tip or anything. My son picks these up with his delivery app job for Walmart and they pay him more than the return is worth. Now that's great customer service!)
- FREE Paramount+ streaming subscription
- FREE flat tire repair and road hazard warranty at Walmart Auto Care Centers nationwide. This works if you have a child going to college in another state that has a Walmart, we tried it!
- Member prices on fuel (savings of $0.10 per gallon), plus access to Sam’s Club fuel centers (sadly our area doesn't have these gas stations, but we plan to use it on vacation.)
- Mobile Scan & Go payment from your phone for streamlined shopping, less time at the register, and contact-free checkout (I prefer humans, so I have not tried this one.)
- Earn Walmart Rewards for purchases (it's like coupons, you check the box and get to use it as payment on your next purchase, also they will sometimes say, do this action and you get a $10 reward.)
- Early access to special savings event (like Black Friday and more!)

Is a Walmart Plus Membership Worth It?
If you only have one vehicle, for sure – definitely – it's a must have! If you and your spouse each have a vehicle, you could go and do all the shopping yourself, load everything in your vehicle, pay for shipping, pay the extra 10 cents a gallon for gas, pay for tire repair, and do all the things and not have to pay the price of a membership.
But how much is your time worth? I have eight kids, a home business, and not enough time in the day! So to me, it would be worth it even if I am blessed with a second vehicle.
