Christian Homeschool Science Curriculum

I was very pleased to see that Master Books God's Design Science (for Life: for Beginners) is a Christian homeschool science curriculum and God is mentioned throughout the book.

Complete Life Science Curriculum for K – 2nd Grades

Over my several years of homeschooling (I started in 2005 with my oldest child) I have always loved teaching from the God's Design for Life series books for the older elementary grades. This workbook and textbook are perfect for my children who are currently in grade K (Megan) and 2nd grade (Mitchell). I found it to be an “all in one book” complete life science curriculum, which includes: a schedule of lesson plans, a science textbook, hands on activities, optional activities and an answer key. Yes, seriously – it's all in one book! You should get it and see.

A Schedule of Lesson Plans

There is a handy schedule in the front of the book that gives you lesson plans for a 180 day school year doing lessons three to four days per week. (Most weeks are four days.)

Science Textbook

There are pages for reading and activity pages to do. The activities include coloring, word finds, labeling (most labeling pages have the word written with spaces so that they can be traced over with a pencil).

I used the same book with both Mitchell and Megan. In the front of the book it does say that permission is granted for copies for use with immediate family members. So I did make copies on my little copier machine at home, so they could each have one. When completed, they each placed them in their own folders. If you have more than one child, you might want to get more than one book, so the children don't need to take turns doing the activity pages, and so you don't need to have folders and pages in the folders.

Hands On Activities

Towards the beginning of the book, there is a supply list that mentions what you will need for each lesson, so that you can plan ahead and have things ready. Many of the activities are done with objects found around your home, like a carrot and a magnifying glass. However, if you prefer to have a pre-assembled kit with some extras like a pinecone, a feather, craft supplies and more, Master Books offers access to a supply kit.

Optional Activities

Before the answer key and towards the end of the book there is a section of optional activities that go with each lesson. These are not written in the lesson plans, but there is an asterisk next to that day's plans to show there is an optional activity available.

Answer Key

At the back of the book, there is an answer key. I am extremely happy about this as I hate having the answer key in a separate book to keep track of. Also, it's so easy to just flip back there and see if my child got the answer correct. I don't even have to think about it.

Conclusion

My kids loved the colorful pages of animals and plants the best. Megan especially loved coloring the flowers, plants, trees and fruit. Mitchell loved coloring the animals and writing and tracing the words to label objects on activity pages. They both enjoyed the science projects and extra activities and would ask for them often while using this curriculum.

I absolutely love that there is only one book to keep track of and that it has everything in it as mentioned above. I highly recommend you check out this extraordinary science curriculum, I really think you will enjoy it!
