Finally affording your own place can be an exciting phase in life, especially if you are on your way to building your dream home. There are many things to consider, but one major thing that you should be focusing on is deciding how you want your house to be. From outdoor living rooms to walk-in showers, here are some of the latest housing trends that can help you build your modern home.

Building Your Dream Home

Open Spaces

An open floor plan is a common similarity that you can find in almost every modern home today. With millennials starting to take over the home-buying population, you can see fewer hallways and smaller rooms topped with a lot of open space. An open concept just makes the house look and feel more expansive and its rooms more accessible and efficient.

One of the best ways to apply this home-interior trend is to design your kitchen in such a way that it openly connects to the dining area. You may also consider merging your dining to your living area to make socializing more effortless.

Kitchens as Social Hubs

It’s 2020—kitchens are no longer rooms intended merely for cooking! Since last year, more and more homeowners are transforming their kitchens into social hubs, where they do not just cook dishes for the family but also entertain guests while they prepare a meal.

With the implementation of open spaces, make your kitchen feel more welcoming by including a kitchen island. The idea of a spacious kitchen will entice anyone to stay and lounge longer than when the area feels cramped.

Bringing It Outdoors

An outdoor living area is becoming more and more popular in millennial homes. This should be an expansion of the indoor living room but with a more relaxing and a more natural ambiance.

Even if you are not particularly a nature lover, being outdoors every once in a while can be healthy and enjoyable for the entire family. If you are thinking of remodeling your porch or patio, consider up-cycling materials that you have at home to make the area look more rustic and cozy.

Green Building Materials

With the boom of the digital era, people are becoming more and more aware of the damages that humans tend to inflict on the earth. This has contributed to the switch of many homeowners to a greener building approach.

There are several ways to keep your environmental footprint at the minimum when creating your home, which includes the use of green building materials such as bricks made from cigarette butts, light-emitting cement, and even Martian concrete. Homeowners who want to live sustain-ably are also installing solar panels, which not only invites natural light in but also serves as a renewable energy source for your home.

Walk-In Showers

With the rising trend of barrier-free spaces, many homeowners are now applying this concept to their bathrooms. The increasing popularity of walk-in showers does not come as a surprise as it truly modernizes a bathroom and the home in general. No more crowded tub-shower arrangement—current homeowners prefer just a sleek, sophisticated open shower area, which is more low maintenance since there will be no more walls to clean of mold and grime.

Speaking of low maintenance, a macerating toilet is another concept that’s starting to take the spotlight in modern bathrooms. Since this is easy to install and to transport, it is a no-brainer toilet choice for today’s busy families.

There are a lot of trends and innovations to consider when building your own home this 2020, but when everything just feels overwhelming, always remember to choose the ones that fit your personality and lifestyle. Then decisions should not feel so hard to make!

When you ask yourself the common questions: Can I afford my dream home? Should I buy a new build? Can I build a new home and still be “green”? What do I want for a tub or shower? How big of a kitchen do I need to fit my family or friends? and more, I hope this article has been helpful in getting you thinking of the many choices.
