heavy rain falling on eavestrough of a house next to a tree branch ensure your home is ready to face the next storm neededinthehome

So, is there a storm due to hit? If so, then you may be wondering how you can protect your home and garden. If you are regularly hit by storms then you may be slowly learning different techniques each time. Check out the article below to find out more.

Invest In Window Shutters

One thing that can give your windows an extra layer of protection is window shutters. You attach them to your windows and they take the force of the storm that’s hitting. They are the first line of defense when that storm hits, they protect your windows from getting broken by flying debris. If your windows are old and likely to leak then shutters also prevent this from happening. Rain water can’t penetrate the shutters if you use them currently. Check out how you can benefit from window shutters by speaking to the experts.

Replace Gutters

When there is a storm with heavy rains, this can put a lot of extra strain on your gutters. The issue that can arise from this is if your gutters are blocked then they won’t allow the water to flow. What happens is the water gets backed up and eventually bursts your gutters. This can then lead to water entering the foundations of your home and causing issues with subsidence. If you notice your gutters aren’t quite doing what they are supposed to be doing, contact a local gutter expert. They will be able to come and inspect your gutters to be sure they are all working as they should be. If you need new ones then they can also carry out new gutter installation for you.

Store Garden Furniture

If you know it is going to be windy and a storm is coming, be sure to put all of your garden furniture away. The last thing you want or need to be dealing with is lost garden furniture, or one of your chairs flying through a neighbor's window. If you have nowhere to store it then you could tie it down to the ground so it doesn't budge at all when the strong winds hit. Cover it up with a purpose furniture cover or even a large tarpaulin, this will give it an extra layer of protection from rain, sleet, or hail.

Restore Fencing

Finally, if you have noticed that your fencing is slightly wobbly then it won’t withstand another storm. Fences aren’t really designed to weather a storm over and over so you may need to repair or replace the panels frequently. If you are friends with your neighbors then you might both go in on the cost together. The best fence panels you can get if you live in a high storm risk area are ventilated ones, using concrete and steel posts to keep them firmly attached.

We do hope you found this article helpful and it gave you some ideas on how you can ensure your home is ready for the next storm. You don’t have to just sit there and wait for it to hit, make sure you are putting precautions in place to manage it.
