kahuna gear saladzilla review mom and son smiling in kitchen with the boy holding the salad spinner neededinthehome

My family was excited to try out the Saladzilla Salad Spinner and do a product review. Saladzilla is a portable, space saving, non-mechanical salad spinner made of food grade quality materials by Kahuna Gear.

Disclosure: I received a free product and was compensated for my time writing this article. All opinions are my own.

The Packaging of Saladzilla

Our Saladzilla arrived in this environmentally safe kraft paper envelope with this adorable saying, “World' tiniest Salad & Herb Spinner.” It had cute little fork and vegetable characters with faces and leaves and a QR code. The other side had their logo with a UPC .

The blue water catchment part with the product tag is what you see when you pull the product out of the envelope.

The instructions flipper gives the logo, website, product information, instructions for use, tells how to pack the product inside itself, gives the history of Saladzilla, compares this product to plastic salad spinners, gives three dressing recipes, and tells parts, capacity and product weight, along with the UPC.

Packing the Saladzilla into a Pouch

To try out this product, I thought it would be best to see if I could really handle folding it into the little pouch that is attached. It looked hard to do and I wanted to challenge myself.

Everything fits neatly into this tiny pouch. It really is the “tiniest salad spinner!”

The instructions look so simple, only 6 steps. But when I put my fingers in the pouch, I was thinking there must be some mistake. There is a lot of material. How can it all fit in there? I followed the instructions and it was actually very simple to do and it seriously fits into this little pouch!

It's so little that I can easily store in my cupboard, backpack, or with my camping items. A prepper could store one of these in their bug out bag with no problem.

Assembling the Saladzilla for Use

Next, I planned to assemble the Kahuna Gear Saladzilla for use. It was very simple. I just needed to attach three of these wooden knobs into loops. That was all I needed to do! There was nothing else. It was ready!

Using The Saladzilla

Now for the fun part! Our family has fun testing new products so I had a crowd of five other people watching me. (I have a large family of ten with nine of us currently living at home.) There are only six steps to the use instructions. First, I chopped and washed my lettuce.

Next, I sort of rolled down the handle to the metal ring so I had an opening in the top. Then I placed the washed lettuce into the opening.

After the Saladzilla had been filled. I lifted the top to make it easier for me to grab around the green material to use as a handle to hold for pouring.

Spinning The Saladzilla

Okay, to be completely open with you, I told my husband that we should do this outside because I didn't want water splashed all over the kitchen! He said he watched the videos on the website and there was not any water being splashed at all. I was skeptical. He encouraged me to try it in the kitchen and he would clean the splashes if it didn't work. Deal!

You can't help but smile and laugh! I was worried it was going to splash all over my kitchen, but my worry turned to joy when I saw that all the water stayed inside the catchment!

I poured out the water and looked behind me and when they saw mom smiling and having a good time, I had everyone wanting a turn to spin it! We poured water out occasionally between people's turns.

This is reality, after the eighth kid, we just don't care if the pajamas match – and we were testing this on Friday evening as we had a busy weekend coming up with a graduation party pretty far out of town on Saturday and church and other family events scheduled for all day Sunday. Monday we were starting swimming lessons and well, this momma just could not wait! So here is Mitchell having a great time spinning that Saladzilla!

Not to be outdone by her older brother, Megan gave the Saladzilla a spin. She scratched her chin while playing earlier, so she has a bandage on.

Mason is my only child in matching pajamas for this review! Being older and stronger, he had a great time spinning the Saladzilla.

Not to be outdone by her three younger siblings, Miranda spun this will all her might!

The kids giggled and laughed as even Daddy had a try with whirling the Saladzilla.

So my husband was right. Not a splash to be found in the kitchen from all that spinning! That's an amazing, innovative and fun product!

Putting the Lettuce into a Bowl

The instructions say to push out the vegetables, so I started to pour them out first since I had two heads of iceberg lettuce in there. Then, when I had poured out as much as I could and some leaves were sticking to the bottom, I pushed them out basically turning the product inside out. A few leaves were stuck to the mesh fabric and had to be removed by hand.

How To Wash The Saladzilla

I put some dish soap and hot water in my clean sink and placed the Saladzilla in there and swished it around a few times, then thoroughly rinsed it off and laid it on a dish towel to air dry on the counter overnight. The next day I “pouched” it.

Conclusion

The lettuce was crisp, clean and fresh, just how we like it!

I really didn't expect to like this product so much! I was kind of wondering how to use this product in our cold, frozen winters here in Wisconsin, USA where your wet, showered hair freezes when you step outside to get the dog to come in. I thought I would need to go outside to spin it, but I don't! My lettuce turned out great and I love how little space the folded Saladzilla takes up in my cupboard compared to other plastic or mechanical salad spinners.

This review may turn out to be expensive as I now have it on my want list so there is one for the family camping gear, one for the backpack for the boundary waters backpacking trips, and several for relative gifts. I am also thinking this would be a great wedding shower or wedding gift for upcoming weddings as well. At least the shipping is free, so maybe I can buy them one by one as needed!
