Keeping a lawn in good condition is always tough and if you have brown spots that you can’t get rid of or pest infestations, you have to put a lot of work in to get your lawn looking great again. Mowing the lawn regularly is the most basic part of your care routine, but people tend to neglect it when they have a sloped garden. Pushing the mower up a steep slope is a pain, so people leave it to grow. But once it gets overgrown, it’s harder to keep it healthy, so you need to cut it regularly. Choose The Right Grass Varieties 

Often, when trying to manage your lawn, you need to protect it from harsh sunlight. However, with a sloped lawn that faces north, you have the opposite challenge. Picking the right grass variety is key here because some do much better than others in low light. Zoysia grass is particularly good for shaded lawns. 

You should also pick varieties that have long roots to give more strength on the slope. Zoysia is good here as well but you could also try ryegrass or dichondra. When you are planting a new lawn, add some compost to the soil beforehand because it will improve drainage and stop surface runoff. 

Be Careful With Watering

Shaded areas of the lawn don’t need that much water, even during the summer. They just need enough to keep them damp and if you water it too much, you will end up with rot and yellow spots. So, it’s best to water less frequently and make sure that you water deeply. When you are watering the lawn, it’s also very important to manage runoff. If water runs off and pools at the bottom of the slope, you will end up with a boggy mess and lots of dead patches on the lawn. Aerating the lawn regularly will improve drainage and reduce surface runoff so the lawn doesn’t get too saturated. It’s also best to avoid high-pressure sprinklers because they cause a lot of erosion and that leads to more surface runoff.
