Renovating a home can be a daunting task. Not only is there the hassle of dealing with construction workers and dust, but there's also the challenge of keeping your house organized during all of the chaos. If you're not careful, you can quickly lose track of what's going on and where everything is supposed to go. This blog post will give you five tips to help keep your house organized while renovating!

Protect Your Home From Dust and Debris

One of the biggest challenges of renovating your home is dealing with all of the dust and debris that comes along with it. Construction workers tracking in dirt, sawdust, and other materials can quickly make a mess of your home. To protect your floors and furniture from damage, lay down drop cloths or plastic sheeting in high traffic areas. It would help if you also considered covering your furniture with sheets or towels to keep them clean.

Create a Floor Plan

Another way to stay organized while renovating is to create a floor plan for your home. This will help you keep track of where everything is supposed to go and make it easier to put things back in their rightful place when the renovation is complete. Be sure to include measurements of all your rooms and furniture in your floor plan to find items when you need them quickly.

Label Everything

As you start to move things around during your renovation, be sure to label everything with its new location. This will prevent confusion later on and will help you stay organized. You can use sticky notes, labels, or tape to mark where things go. Label the name of the room it goes in first, then what is in it. This also helps your moving helpers to help you carry things to the right places.

Keep a Running List

During a renovation, it's easy to lose track of what you need to do. To stay on top of things, keep a running list of all the tasks that need to be completed. This will help you stay organized and will ensure that nothing gets forgotten. Be sure to add to your list as new tasks come up so that you don't forget anything important.

Take Advantage of Portable Storage Units

One of the best ways to keep your house organized during a renovation is to rent a portable storage unit. This will give you a place to store all your belongings while your home is being renovated. Be sure to label everything that goes into your storage unit so that you can easily find it when you need it.

Try to Keep the Food and Clothing Organized

You need to be able to find your food quickly to heat up a quick meal so no one goes hungry for too long. This is very important as remodeling is already a stressor and when people are hungry, they sometimes have a temper tantrum. Eat at scheduled mealtimes, but every meal needs to be quick to find, make, eat and serve. This is not a time for keeping leftovers, or using a lot of dishes or storage containers. Try to make the right amount of food and use as much paperware as possible.

Keep in mind that renovations can take a lot longer than scheduled if materials do not arrive to the renovators on time, if the electrician is a week late, the plumber is two weeks later than scheduled, the workers are ill, whatever. So get a heavy duty shelf for the canned goods and label it, so on each shopping trip, family members know right where to put things.

Clothing still needs to be accessible and you need to keep on top of washing the laundry. Find clothing for bedtime and the next day right after eating supper and cleaning up from that meal, so you are fed and nerves are calm. This may be a good time to use command hooks to temporarily hang clothing in a place where you normally do not if your bedroom is being remodeled.

Keep Essentials With You And Create A Safe Space

Last but not least, make sure to keep all of your essential items with you during the renovation. This includes things like food, clothes, toiletries, and medications. You should also create a safe space in your home where you can go to relax and escape the construction noise. This might be a bedroom or a bathroom away from the main construction area. This room should be clean and organized and look normal without added stuff from the renovation.

By following these tips, you can stay organized while your home is being renovated. Just remember to take things one step at a time, and you'll be able to get through the process with ease!
