Tablets are great for kids, they’re small, portable, and can be used for both educational and entertaining. But there are so many on the market at the moment, with prices to suit all budgets, so which one do you pick?
When choosing a tablet for your child, here are some things you might want to consider.

Operating System
Just as there are many brands on the market, there are many operating systems too. The Apple and Android ones are probably the most well-known. You might prefer to have all phones and tablets in your home on the same platform, as you’re already familiar with it and feel more comfortable using it. You may also be able to control all devices remotely, which is great for parental controls and finding if it’s lost or stolen.
Some programs are also only available on certain platforms or as a web browser. Educational platforms such as ABCmouse can be accessed in a number of ways.
It’s Compatible For Virtual Learning
From time to time, it may be necessary for your child to complete homework or classes on a dedicated system used by the school. The tablet needs to be able to access this so that your child can participate.
Parental Controls
It’s very important that any device capable of accessing the internet can be monitored and controlled remotely. Children could end up watching content that is not suitable for them or talking with strangers. Make sure that parental controls are preinstalled for you to set up or you are able to download and install a third-party product to do this for you.
These types of controls are also very important if you’re using a central family account to buy and access apps and content as you don’t want your child to be able to spend money on games or other content accidentally.
Resilience
Anyone with kids knows that they break things, a lot. You don’t want to be replacing smashed or damaged tablets frequently. Find models that have toughened screens, are waterproof or come with screen protectors or protective cases. You won’t be able to stop all damage, but this should take care of most things. It may cost a little more to buy these types of tablets but it’s worth it for them to be harder to damage.
udget
When you start looking for a tablet, then you’ll notice that there’s a huge price range out there. Depending on your budget, you may be limited to certain models. There are some great models on the market that are reasonable price, but there are also those that are very poor quality and won’t last either. Make sure that you read the reviews from other parents. If you can wait until the sales or Black Friday, you might be able to get a more advanced model for a good price.
Takeaways
Choosing a tablet for your child is very different from choosing one for yourself. However, there are models out there to suit every budget, so you’re sure to find the right one for you.
