Whether you’re redesigning your current home or building a house from scratch, one of the most important and difficult rooms to design has to be the kitchen. The kitchen is sometimes considered the stomach of the house, and it’s vital to make sure that it’s functional and attractive.
After all, you should hopefully be living with your kitchen for at least a few years.

Get Inspired
There’s nothing worse than a blank space when you’re trying to think of a design. Before you can do anything, you need to figure out what you want from your kitchen.
The best way to do this is to get inspired by other kitchen designs. You can get some great kitchen ideas and inspiration from photographs of kitchens. This will also help you work out what’s trending now.
When it comes to designing your kitchen and other rooms in your house, trends aren’t that important. You don’t have to have to redecorate every time a new trend comes along, so the thing to focus on is how you feel about the design. If you like it, it’s officially trending in your house. Still, trends can be helpful when you’re trying to come up with different ideas.
You should also think about your needs in the kitchen. If you cook a lot, you might want a lot of storage space and an efficient layout. If you aren’t one for cooking, you could go for a more basic design that suits your needs without blowing the budget.
Create a Budget and Save
Speaking of a budget, you need one for any major renovation.
In a perfect world, you might be able to renovate your kitchen without going into debt. Some people manage to save enough for this, but even if you will take out a loan, it helps to have some money stored in your savings.
These savings can be used to offset the loan by providing a healthy deposit. You could get a larger loan with a bigger deposit or you could reduce the amount you borrow to prevent going into debt.
In both cases, it’s vital to have a budget for your kitchen renovation. A budget might mean making some sacrifices, but it’s better to be financially stable and have a kitchen you can enjoy.
Use Reliable Contractors
This leads neatly into the final point, which is to use reliable contractors. You can do some smaller tasks yourself, like switching out cupboard doors and door handles for a fresh look, but most of the time when you’re doing a full kitchen redesign, it’s best to get some contractors in.
They might be able to help you come up with a great new design and they can do the work for you. Kitchen re-designers don’t just do the heavy work, they can also help with the look of your kitchen. This might be a fresh coat of paint, new tiles, or some artwork that looks stunning in your kitchen.
Set Up A Mini Kitchen In Another Room
You know you can't function without a kitchen, so set up a mini kitchen in another room. Use a slow cooker, electric skillet or a portable microwave for meals during this time. If possible, move your refrigerator to another room or use your garage refrigerator and freezer if you have one. Keep the family out of the kitchen at all costs until the renovation is over.
Use paperware and utensils and TV tray type dinners as much as possible at this time to keep the dirty dishes count low. For dirty dishes, use two small tubs – one for soapy water and one for rinse water. Dump the dirty waters outside after use.
Think about your drinking water. If your filtered water normally comes from a kitchen tap or kitchen fridge you can't get to, then you need to find a way to get a large amount of fresh, filtered water. You could buy 5 gallon jugs and get a water cooler dispenser to heat and cool water during this time as an option.
Think of other things you need in the kitchen, like a coffee station you could set up at a small table. Keep spices and pantry foods in boxes under your coffee, microwave or cooking tables for now. If you have pets or small children, you may want to get quality plastic storage totes to put these in, as well as sturdy gates to keep them out of the kitchen.
Conclusion
A kitchen renovation is a big undertaking, but so worth it in the end. Proper planning ahead of time will help you to be prepared and get through it.
